Will "answers" be obvious?

Hi -
I think it's extremely valuable to know which topics have been correctly answered or reached some other successful conclusion.

That being said, it would also be useful to be able to include "limit search to topics that have been answered" to the Search function.

    I beg to differ with that proclaimed opinion.

    I've owned Mac computers since the day's of OSX 6.3 and an SE-30 computers. That would be at least 1986. I believe I have a fairly decent IQ . and I have been using acrobat since the day of Acrobat 4. That a fair distance back in History. While I have a decent IQ I am lacking in Proofreading skills and Typing skills. back in the 60's Boys didn't take typing - that was for women. Plus I had more of desire for Electronics and wood-working. So I didn't take typing. Something I regret. But at almost 60 its to late to learn to touch typing plus arthritis doesn't help either.

    I could just as well say that you are something pompous with the first letter of the alphabet for beginning of the word. But I am not going to sink that low.

    Just because people use Mac's doesn't mean they have a low IQ or sub human. Just means they would rather use a more secure and less hassle free operating system and concentrate on getting work done instead of fiddling with the system.

    Most people that post on Apple forums to get questions asked usually do so because is generally so hassle free that having a problem is foreign and unusual to them That they ask help from people that may have had the same problem.

    after thinking about this for a week (or more) while answering in the forum, i've come down on this too. marking something as "answered" will definitely detract from the forums overall as lots of great info won't come out. might be OK for newbies looking for something quickly, but for those of us who stay around to help BECAUSE we enjoy and learn from those deeper discussions, that would be a problem if those discussions never took place. it would take a way a big reason for why we stay and help newbies in the first place.

    I don't think that marking a question as "answered" by the OP is a good idea. Following pj's criterium, the OP could well mark it as answered if s/he receives a workaround that solves his/her immediate problem, and never come back to the thread. Being aware of this, someone who knows the real answer (or one of the real answers, as there may be more than one) may not want to bother to post it because the question already appears as "answered". So, anyone with the same problem who goes to that thread at a later time may be wrongly led to believe that the workaround is the solution to that problem. Not to mention the several other powerful arguments other posters have already given.

    One thing I have always liked about these forums is their professionalism.     I don't see it that way.

    Most of the questions asked in these Forums seem to come from people who have both the intelligence and determination to master the rather complex software that they have purchased; and also seem to have a pretty good idea of how their computers and operating systems work.

    Also, there are usually numerous different ways to tackle a task or to solve a problem in a program like Photoshop so there is NO single "Right Answer".

    I dunno. Some of the questions in the forum are pretty neophyte to me ... or do you think we should have a skill testing question asked before we allow anyone in?

    Might be stretching it a bit. I've always found it quite easy to find an answer I'm looking for in those forums.

    As far as design and all the other little features found there, they don't bother me. I hardly notice them at all.

    Personally, I find the Apple Forums to be almost useless and the only time i now visit them is if I run into problems after installing one of Apple's so-called "Security Updates" and I want to see if the problem might be wide-spread.

    However, MacFixit is usually a much better, less biassed and more timely source of such information.

    There is absolutely NOTHING about the Apple Forums that should be adopted for the Adobe Forums.

    One advantage to having answered feature. is so that once the OP has found the answer that fixed his/her problem you mark answered. That way the people don't have to submit day and months of new threads on the question because you don't know if the OP really cares or is even following the post.

    AS for the helpful again the answer is to be marked helpful on if it is helpful to the person posing the question.

    Whether it is the most textbook correct answer or not; is not the question; it is whether the answer that was posted and was marked by the op as helpful helped him/her correct their problem.

    For those that want a little understanding of marking answered, and helpful and even avatars. go to: http://www.aapple.com/support then click forums. the go to any forum and click on a topic or two and see how the system works.

    The space for the avatar grows according to length of post. and width is determined by information added by their system. Notice how that a particular answered is shown as helpful only if its marked and only in the margin.

    Personally I would like to a system with the same look as the forums are now. But I would have no objections to avatars and the ability to mark a thread answered I start if I find an answer, and helpful if I find an answer helpful. If that is what the designers of the new system wish to do. Just make sure they have same or similar system to send email notices of new post in topics subscribed to and one like is clicked on you signed in and read to read and post. That the two most important things to me.
