How to determine Which Acrobat DC version is installed? Pro or Std

Explorer ,
Apr 23, 2015 Apr 23, 2015

I need to track which computers have which version for Licensing and update purposes. I use Dell K1000 for tracking and updating. With Acrobat XI, Pro and Standard had different uninstall registry keys so I was able to track them with a simple check for which registry key was on the computer. They would also show up separately in Dell Case stating Pro or Standard. However, With Acrobat DC the uninstall keys are the same and they both only show up as Acrobat DC in Dell K1000. How does Acrobat DC determine which version is installed and how can I duplicate it so I can count used license and install the correct updates?

The GUIDs should be different.  The ETK documents the differences:  Identifying Existing Installs — Enterprise Administration Guide

I went to the ENU_GUID on both machines and they are Identical for Acrobat DC Pro and Standard

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\2015\Installer

ENU_GUID {AC76BA86-1033-FFFF-7760-0E0F06755100}

I do agree that Acrobat XI this did work and I was using it to verify. I did notice that when I used 7zip to extract the installers for the customization tool that both the standard and pro had the AcroPro.msi. In Acrobat XI the standard version had AcroStan.msi. I just re-downloaded Acrobat DC Standard and extracted the file again. The standard still has the AcroPro.msi inside it. I think this is why the GUIDs are the same for Acrobat DC.

The Acrobat DC title bar does state Pro and Standard correctly.

Product Download from the Adobe LWS website:

Adobe Acrobat Standard DC 2015 Installer for Windows

Extract with 7zip and it has the AcroPro.msi inside

Pre-Deployment Planning — Enterprise Administration Guide States "

Installing Acrobat DC Standard¶

Acrobat DC products delivered via an ESD EXE download provide one installer that is used for both Acrobat Standard and Professional. The serial number you use determines which product is installed. What’s important to note is that when you extract the Acrobat ESD EXE (Acrobat_DC_Web_WWMUI.exe or Acrobat_2015_Web_WWMUI.exe), you’ll see AcroPro.msi in the output folder. This is the correct behavior. Simply remember to use AcroPro.msi in any command line scripts.

Note

Existing scripts that use AcroStan.msi should be updated."

Both Acrobat DC Pro and Standard have KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\2015\Installer ENU_GUID {AC76BA86-1033-FFFF-7760-0E0F06755100}

On the laptop with DC standard installed C:\ProgramData\regid.1986-12.com.adobe\regid.1986-12.com.adobe_V7{}AcrobatESR-12-Win-GM-en_US.swidtag

On the laptop with DC Pro installed C:\ProgramData\regid.1986-12.com.adobe\ is empty

Your guide does not have any information regarding Acrobat DC. Please explain how to verify if Acrobat DC Pro or standard is installed. or explain how to get the ENU_GUID for standard to start with {AC76BA86-1033-FFFF-BA7E.

Is there an ETA on the future release that will contain the planned "fix for this issue"?

Thanks,

There's a documented way to identify the install.

This bug was found back in April. Is there an approximate date of release? The software management system that our company uses is reporting all of the Acrobat DC as the same version of installation and our licensing team requesting that we clear this issue. We are currently in the process of removing all Acrobat X installs, which is coming to End-of-Life and need to verify correct Acrobat DC versions.

Manually checking the SWIDTAG file for 100 systems is not good work around.

Thank you,

Scott

I think the documented method is the only fix likely to be available for a while. You could script the data collection or use a 3rd party tool. I think TagVault might offer one. Also, SCCM is be adding support for inventorying SWID tags in the future.

For System Center Configuration Manager, here's 1 way to gather that information:  http://mnscug.org/blogs/sherry-kissinger/419-gather-some-adobe-serial-numbers-and-version-using-conf...

At least until something better comes along.

I am not sure who marked this as a correct answer but this, I feel, should just be a work around until the GUID for the software versions is corrected. TagVault.org was a dead end when trying to pull SWID information.

That was an "old" correct answer and is now removed. The GUID will not change. The information you want is in the files referenced by the current documentation.

There is no license key in of example "016-1603-4373-0457-xxxx-xxxx" in there.

I don't need the "type" of license. I need the actual license key so I know which install goes with which computer.

After pinging the team, I've learned that the serial number field is an encoded version of the serial. You can use the first four digits of that number to determine which version is installed as described in the documentation. There is no place on the machine where the license number is stored in clear text.
