I am currently working on a new map for my school and on Friday when I tried to render extrude and bevel, it gave me an error message saying "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error [CANT]" everytime I try to use the pen tool it gives that same error message and also gives an error message saying" An error occurred while processing the appearance of an object" and it is VERY ANNOYING. can someone please explain this? I have a deadline to meet.

I would also like to note that I work on school computers so I have limited access to settings.

I have a similar problem. I'm not 100% sure what caused the error, but I was trying to redraw a raster 3d model and playing around with the 3d options, also using the Symbols library. I decided not to use the 3d options, but I'm still getting the two error messages on start up and whenever I try to edit the symbols. And now the document completely freezes the program as soon as I open it, and I'm unable to select anything, use the hand tool, quit the program... nothing.

I'm guessing it's corrupted, and I'm really just hoping those hours of work can be rescued somehow.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Whatever the current version of Illustrator is.

UPDATE: This opens and is workable on a different machine with an older version of Illustrator. If I have time at some point I'll figure out and report whether it was the machine or the version of illustrator.

Once I replaced all the symbols ('cause thankfully I was smart and made all the repeated bits symbols) with flat, basic shapes that had never been 3d, gradient, or anything else, I was able to copy and paste the needed things into a new document which opens fine, with no errors, on my own machine.

I'm about to cry in relief that I don't have to redraw it again with a looming Monday deadline.
