Exporting/Rendering in either Premiere Pro and Media Encoder sends iMac to sleep/shutdown

As the topic states, I have had the following issues for the last days and it drives me crazy:

When exporting/rendering a 4-camera Splitscreen (all 4 streams are 1080p ProResLT on a timeline downsized and positioned with the standard "motion" effect in the effects tab) rendering starts for about 2 minutes and then the computer suddenly goes to sleep mode and stops. When waking back up, exporting just continues for about 30 seconds until the next sleep down. You can repeat that cycle 2 or 3 times before the machine shuts all the way down and has to be restarted.

The thing is: CPU is not even running at 50% so this doesn't seem to be a thermal shutdown or something. I even tried deactivating all effects on the timeline to no avail.

Exporting single files with effects and downrezzing 2160p to 1080p works without the issue but even these files resized/positioned on a 1080p timeline cause the sleepmode when exporting.

This sort of export is not something new or special as I have succesfully exported timelines like this before - even with effects (Lumetri, Colorista, Neat Video, Filmconvert, ...) active.

Machine is a Late 2015 iMac 27inch, 4.0GHz i7, 32GB RAM, 4GB Radeon M395X.

Diagnostics find no hardware issue and sudden sleepmode has not happened before using any other app - including rendering in After Effects and Black Magic Resolve.

I'm really lost!

Help appreciated!

Martin

Reste Premiere pro preferences:

Press Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) while launching Premiere Pro. You can release the Alt key or Option key when the splash screen appears. To reset preferences and plug-in cache at the same time, hold down Shift-Alt (Windows) or Shift-Option (Mac OS) while the application is starting.

also I would disable sleep mode under apple´s energy saver options

Hi Martin,

We're sorry to hear about this. Are you getting this issue with a specific project or with all of them? Have you tried using a different format/codec and checked if it's working properly? Also, as suggested by Gilberto please check the Energy Saver settings on your system.

Thanks,
Sumeet

Hi!

Thanks for the advice!

It turned out to be a thermal issue after all. GPU went to 110°C and shut down the system. In testing earlier the other apps just seemed to not tax the GPU as much but Resolve and Heaven-Benchmark started to shut down the System as well on running them again.

After heartily applying some compressed air to the air vent and a major dust cloud discharging, the system runs again without issues. What differnce a little air-flow makes 😉

Thanks again for the advice, turned out to be sort of a noob issue 😉
