Premiere Pro CC 2018 (Mac) - 12.0.1 Update failed - "unable to move the file"

Community Beginner ,

I tried to install the latest Premiere 12.0.1 update, but after about 22% of the installation is completed, I get the following error:

"Update Failed

Unable to move the file.  Rename the file and then try again."

When I click on More Information, it shows me a summary of the errors, saying it is "Error Code: 146".  The Adobe troubleshooting page says the solution for this error is to "Rename the file and then try again."

I have no idea which file it is referring to, and what would I even rename it to.

Thanks!

Same problem here. @F_A_K have you solved or you still have the issue?

I'm having the same issues. Don't know what to do. I had a live chat with someone today who sent me a link to download it from the link below, but that didn't work either. Now I'm not sure what to do!

I had this. Uninstalling (keeping preferences) and reinstalling solved it for me. Still no idea what file it was referring to!

I had a live chat and got it fixed!

You basically just need to uninstall Premiere and then reinstall it, but these are the steps they took me through just in case:

1. Logout of Creative Cloud desktop app.

2. Activity Monitor-under energy, force quit all Adobe apps.

3. Applications folder-delete Premiere Pro folder

4. Option-Utilities (in finder), and delete Premiere Pro Uninstaller.

5. Clear trash.

6. Login to Creative cloud desktop app.

7. Install Premiere Pro and open!

Hope that works for you too!

It's worked so far for me with Premiere Pro, just trying with the other programmes I had the same issue with!

Yeah I still have to do it for the other programs too.  Now the question is-why cant it just install the updates without having to go through these extra steps?!

All worked for me. Definitely worth uninstalling then re-installing. A bit of a faff, but it did the trick. Good luck everyone

If that doesn't work, this worked for me (I'm using a Mac w/ High Sierra):

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Similar to F_A_K's solution.. logged me out of CCloud and cleaned up file directory. After restarting my mac I was able to re download CCloud and log in. All apps need to be re installed but are now running current versions (Premiere Pro 12.0.1).
