Unpleasant Exit Fees?

I have just tried to cancel my subscription to Indesign and the web site says I have to pay just under £80 (GBP) - around 100USD in early cancellation fees.

Why?

I have been a customer for many many many years on a monthly subscription and now I have decided to stop doing this kind of work. So why is Adobe trying to screw another chunk of money out of me after all this time?

There is no indication that I can see of a start / finish contract that I might be held to and even if there is, after all this time, I don't know why Adobe would not just gracefully say thank you for my custom over the period.

Any Adobe staff here that would like to explain what appears to be a naked money grab?

When you buy a subscription with one annual payment or an annual amount paid monthly amount you pay less than if you have an actual monthly subscription (see below) and that subscription automatically renews until you cancel... and if you cancel before the end of the subscription you pay 1/2 of the remaining fee

If you are willing to pay more, SOME programs are available Monthly https://community.adobe.com/t5/Get-Started/Being-charged-for-a-full-year-when-i-m-on-month-to-month/... - links and pictures

contact adobe support and plead your case. despite being technically incorrect (ie, you agreed to an annual subscription with an early cancellation penalty), adobe support can be very understanding.

Thank you for your reply @kglad

It isn't the money per se. It's not a huge amount of cash. The point is that I have been a customer since Photoshop 4 (not CS4), so to get hit with a severance bill is annoying to say the least. And as far as I can remember, I transitioned into CS on a roll over monthly payment, not an annual contract. This is not shown in the cancellation screens.

I thought maybe some official from Adobe might pick up this post and reply, but I guess not. The last time I had a gripe a load of Adobe bods answered and started upvoting themselves, while my gripe went unanswered.

A shame to leave Adobe with a nasty taste in my mouth.

you would have had to select the signficantly higher priced monthly plan paid monthly to not be obligated to the one year subscription.

obviously, don't subscribe again, but you can check now and see the offers, prices and warnings, https://creative.adobe.com/plans

I'll give it a go, but you must acknowledge that Adobe is not a community. It is an immensely profitable corporation. I've had my rant and feel slightly better for it, thank you.

The Annual Plan is a 12 month commitment.  To avoid 50% early cancellation fees, you would have had to cancel in your 12th month of service, before it automatically renewed for another year.

Had you subscribed one month at a time, you could cancel anytime without penalty.  The monthly rate costs more per month and rates are subject to increases.

Thank you for your interest, Nancy, but I think we've managed to work that out ourselves without the pictures. I'm off to sunnier pastures now.
