Acrobat DC always opens instead of Acrobat reader

I have an Aodbe CC account but three computers I use regularly, home, office and laptop. The CC Licence only allows 2 computers to be active concurrently.

 

Every time I view a PDF I have to activate the CC licence for that computer. Is there a way to have the Acrobat Reader as default for when the licence for a computer is not active? It is always a hassle to reactivate the license just to quickly view a PDF Document. Both are installed and the reader is already set as default.

 

The answer from Adobe on a different thread asking to set the Reader as default, to "uninstall DC if you want to use the Reader," I find very flippant! There are times when one needs the full version.

 

Do I need to use a third party viewer as default? if so what can people recommend as a stable PDF viewer, that doesn't load the system with advertising or other trash?

The 64-bit application is a unified application for Acrobat and Acrobat Reader.  If you have installed Acrobat Reader 64-bit and you purchase an Acrobat subscription, the Acrobat Reader 64-bit application will upgrade to become a fully functional Acrobat 64-bit application.

It's just made everything more cumbersome, and seems a blatant attempt to monetise the Reader. It has made me so irritated. I'm uninstalling Adobe on all machines except the few who need anything more than basic Reader functionality.

    Since it is no longer possible to have both Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Pro I solved the problem by installing Foxit Reader.

    Acrobat and Reader are now basically the same application. When you have a subscription Reader switches to being Acrobat. So you can't really have both versions installed at the same time any longer. Therefore the solution really is to log out of your CC account if you want to use Reader, I'm afraid.

    Thank you for your reply. The problem is that when I am logged out of my cc account, it demands that I log in again and will not work until I do.
