Hi Adobe,
I don't know what happened with Acrobat Pro 2023, but its a nightmare of slow redraw and unusable page scrolling. If I open anything mildly hi-res (300pdi and up) at a larger format A2, A1 etc. its almost impossible to zoom in to a large detail or move about the page. This did not happen on the previous version that I was using Acrobat Pro 2020. What has happened? I need this program to be able to check large format jobs for print, currently it's unusable. I have to force quite after I do one zoom or it will beach ball for an eternity trying to redraw the image.
I'm on a Macbook Pro M1 Max, 64GB Ram, 1TB HD with plenty of space. Ventura 13.6.
Adobe Creative Cloud gives me no way to revert back to an older usable version. Please advise how I can select an older versionto install, as I cannot do my job with this program as it is. Please Help!
Many thanks,
GG.

The following helped with acrobat slowness on my Mac Studio M1 Max
go to Adobe Acrobat > Preferences > Page Display > Rendering > Uncheck 'Use page cache' > Click OK and reboot the computer once.

Very pleased turning off these options has solved the issue of redwaring when zooming in. this is in OSX 12.5 Monterey. Acrobat 24. 2015 27" iMac. Is odd as I had tried turing off the whole smoothing which ad not helped. But turning off the individual checkboxes has. I did find turing them on again caused the issue to return. Thank you.

Hi Amal,
Thanks for sending through the standard list of troubleshooting measures. Yes, have tried them all now except for the root account which is ridiculous. Also there are no crash or freeze logs, because as I posted its not crashing, its extremely slow perfomance with very large hi-res documents that we in the print production world deal with every day. Small documents are fine and perform as expected. Can you please pass on this performance issue to your developer team. It might be to do with this new "modern scrolling framework" that is mentioned in other threads in the Adobe Community.
Can you please in the meantime send me a link to a pre-Acrobat 2023 installer. Many thanks.
Grant.

Hi Amal,
Thanks for the info - have updated to the latest version and screen redraw and scrolling is still appallingly unusable with large hi-res documents. Please let the developers know the performance is terrible and needs fixing.

I experience the exact same problems.
In various documents it's literally impossible to zoom, because the loading spinner keeps appearing non-stop. If I want to zoom in a PDFs, I have to switch to another program like the apple preview.
It is extremely frustrating that such simple things do not work in a paid program...

I am also having this issue. It makes it impossible to view any file up close. I cannot check resolution because it will not ever get past the bouncing ball. I am a professional graphic designer and depend on Acrobat for my business.

Immer die selbe unqualifizierten Antworten von Adobe!
Was soll das?

This is the least helpful reply and produces absolutely no solution. How about you fix this and stop asking your users to do a ton of free work for you.
The fact that customers have to research your problems is a huge red flag.
Watch my subscription go far far away....

I'm just wanting to echo GG's comment – we are experiencing this slow redraw and lag on zoom across various users in our studio. I also looked for a way to revert to an earlier version but this doesn't appear to be possible. It's making this essential piece of software very frustrating to use.
Thanks,
S

My experience with the new Acrobat 2023 is just as bad. Redraw when zooming is disastrously slow and completely impossible to work with. However, the new Acrobat has other bugs. For example, instead of commenting tool icons, I only see black circles. Developers can keep such software to themselves. It is completely unsuitable for professional work. I would like to know who is responsible for these things. And I'd also like to know what we're actually paying for if Adobe apps keep getting more and more broken... At this point, it would be fair to give users the option to go back to older versions until the issues with the latest version are fixed.

Hi there,
I'm having the same problems overhere.
When I open a simple (210 kb) PDF I can hardly zoom in. When I open a PDF of a brochure (7 MB) I get a flashing image and cannot zoom in or scroll. The only way to make it stop is alt/cmd/esc.
I have updated acrobat to the latest version 2023.006.20380,
I have restarted the mac, it doesn't help anything.
Can I also install an older or previous version of Acrobat via Creative Cloud?

Hi there
We are sorry to hear that.
Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or all of them? Please share a small video recording of the issue for more clarity.
Would you mind collecting the Adobe CC logs https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html and sharing them via any cloud storage? Just upload the log file to the cloud and generate the link and share that link with us for further investigation.

Thanks Jan – that looks like it's behaving the same as mine was and it's obviously unworkable. My experience was that the files didn't need to be particularally complex or high res for them to redraw unuseably slowly on any zoom or move. It was literally taking minutes for each redraw. I have since reinstalled Acrobat 2020 to allow me to work normally.

Thanks for the tip, I have now also installed Acrobat 2020 and that works fine for now, hopefully Adobe will soon release an update that resolves the problems with Acrobat 2023

HI Amal,
I know you are trying to help, and that is very much appreciated, but please can you tell your developers its a high priority issue for creative professionals working on high resolution graphics. You really don't need videos and logs, as I'm 100% sure you can replicate it at Adobe with the files I uploaded to you - this software needs optimizing or the graphics accelleration code needs fixing or something to work with Macs, not sure what it does on Windows. Many thanks -GG

Hi Amal,
I would like to help, but I have uninstalled the 2023 version as I needed to do work, so I am runing the 2022 version. Perhaps one of the others still have it installed and can send you a log. I did upload files as requested and so perhaps just install it on a new M1 Mac and try zooming and scrolling the files I sent and you can look at those logs and why its performance is appalling with larger more complex files. I have lots of work to do and don't have a lot of spare time to do QA testing for Adobe. I hope your engineers can prioritize this. Many thanks.

Hi there,
Thanks for your prompt response and detailed explanation. I understand that you're using the 2022 version of the software and have already uploaded the files for testing. I'll relay your concerns about the performance issues with larger, more complex files to our engineers. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue.

Hi Amal – I've also moved away from the latest version, in my case back to 2020. When I was using the current version it wasn't just large and complex files that were the issue, fairly simple and not particularally high res files would also cause minutes long redraw on any zoom or move. Thanks for your help – hopefully the cause of this can be found and fixed so we can all get back to the current version.
