Acrobat Pro Crashing Constantly on M1 Mac

Acobat Pro seems to crash constantly when attempting to edit larger PDF files. Full uninstall/reinstall is not helping. Running on a M1 Mac, Big Sur 11.5.1. Any ideas?

This is what it does to my macbook.

Any suggestions?

It happens randomly, even with small files

Hi Neri,

Have you by chance tried completly uninstalling and reinstalling Acrobat? If no, uninstall it using the "Acrobat Uninstaller" app that's in the same folder as the Acrobat app itself. After that's done, use the following tool to finish removing what the uninstaller does not: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html

Then reinstall a fresh copy either by using the Adobe CC app or downloading an installer directly from the following website (this might be the better choice): https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html

Best regards,

hp

Yes, I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, MULTIPLE TIMES. That DOES NOT fix the issue. This is absolutely ridiculous. I am a professional and cannot get any work done with all this constant crashing. The only thing that kinf of worked, but that no longer works, is restarting my computer. I could then work in a couple PDFs before the crashing starts again. However, now, even after restarting my Macbook Air M1, the second I open a PDF, Adobe crashes. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

The problem seems to be related to coming and going from VPNs, or switching from wired to wireless connections on remote servers . . .  FWIW, since you guys can't seem to figure it out.

Has this issue been resolved? I'm experience the same thing.

Hi Landry,

Something to try (which seems to help): in Acrobat Preferences > General > Application Startup, is the "Enable native OS mode for optimal performance" enabled? If so, try disabling it. If that doesn't help, go to your Applications > Acrobat folder, click once on the Acrobat app, Get Info (Command - I), and enable the "Open with Rosetta" checkbox.

If all the above does not help, try the following (which will make no sense):

On your desktop, when you have a Finder window open and click once on a file, do you get a thumbail preview of the file on the right side of the window? If so, try disabling the preview feature withinin macOS.

Best regards,

hp

The first option I didn't see an Enable native OS mode. The second option I did and I haven't seen improvement. The third option doesn't happen with my Macbook Pro. I don't even know how to enable thumbnail preview if I wanted to. Any additional thoughts?

Me and my entire Team of 20+ users bought M1 macs earlier this year. Since then we had this exact problem and with every acrobat update i am sure they finally fixed it but nothing changes. I cannot believe this problem is known for way over a year and adobe can't fix it. Acrobat is currently UNUSABLE on M1 macs. We have backup macs with intel JUST TO USE ACROBAT. It is starting to get unacceptable!

Same, having 20+ licenses just to see the colleagues using the mac preview, since acrobat is EXTREMLY slow and is constantly crashing.
I should considering refunding it.

I have the same issue on Monteray 12.6, Acrobat Pro is virtually unusable.

Adobe needs to get its act together with Acrobat on the Mac ....I have given up on it. They know they have an issue and just dont care to fix it. Try printing from Preview vs Acrobat or doing minor edits. case closed.

Having alot of devices facing the same issue, none of the proposed solutions worked for me.
Even a freshly installed mac has the issue with OS X 12.2.1.

Hi there

We are sorry to hear that.

This issue is already raised to our engineering team for review. We will share the update as soon as we get any news from them.

Is there any update on this as my team of 10 operators are all experiencing this issue? (Constant crashes without any pattern). All Macs are M1 Mac Mini's running OS 12 Monterey 12.3.1 and the latest available version of Arobat DC.

Hey there,

Question. Do you have any 3rd party plugin's installed?

Thank you,
hp

Constant crashes multiple times per day.  Does not seem to matter the size of the pdf or how many I have open.

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC Version 2021.011.20039

You can add me to the list of those experiencing frequent crashes. I have a 24" M1 iMac running Big Sur. Crashes started pretty much right after install. Things tried:

  1. Rebooted.
  2. Removed all 3rd party plug-ins.
  3. Reset Acrobat preferences.
  4. Upgraded Acrobat to the very latest version available.
  5. Enabled the "Enable native OS mode..." checkbox in Acrobat preferences.
  6. Cleared cache.

Would appreciate a fix before I purchase more M1 Mac's.

Thanks,
hp

Hi there

Would you mind sharing the exact version of Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.1.20085 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates and reboot.

Amal

Hi Amal,

I already had version 22.1.20085 installed. I also tried enabling the "Open using Rosetta" checkbox in the Get Info window for Acrobat and it is still crashing.

Any chance you're working off of a server?

When I started working off of my desktop the crashing stopped.

YES, I can confirm. It's accentuated when connected to server. I have so many problems with Big Sur and external NAS.

Hi there,

As the issue is observed when connected to sever, please check the server setting at your end and see if that helps.

Thanks.
