Question

acrotray preventing delete

A customer of mine called to say she had been trying to delete a folder on her Desktop containing 62 jpg files for twenty minutes. But the message she sees is: it is open in another process so can't be deleted. I ran resmon > CPU > Associated Handles > searched for the folder name and saw acrotray.exe was using it. I ended the acrotray.exe process in resmon and was then able to delete the folder. Does anyone know why acrotray would be running that long against a folder with just jpg files? Thanks.

Issues like that are no-brainers, if they do not happen often. Just counsel the client to do a reboot, if possible. That solves most issues like this. If, however, this is a frequent issue, you will need to check what the user did before the issue occured. It could be anything: a bug in acrotray, a bug in the OS, a hardware issue, anything.

Thanks, Abambo, for the quick reply. I neglected to put in my original posting that I had mentioned to my customer that a restart would have freed up the folder for deletion. I was just wondering if others had experienced an acrotray problem recently possibly due to an acrotray update and/or an AI process trying to analyze things and not letting go. Like you said, it could have many causes.
