Adobe Acrobat Crashing? Let’s fix it together!

Adobe Acrobat Crashing? Let’s fix it together!

We know crashes are frustrating, but don’t worry, let’s tackle this step by step.

First, try these quick fixes:

  • Send a crash report. When Acrobat crashes, send us the report — it helps us figure out what’s going wrong.
  • Update Acrobat. Go to Help > Check for updates. A lot of issues get resolved with the latest version!
  • Update your operating system. Installing the latest OS updates can make a big difference in stability.

Still having trouble? Let’s dive a little deeper based on your system:

  • On Windows: Try Help > Repair Installation to fix any file issues.
  • On MacOS: Delete Adobe licensing entries, such as Adobe User Info and Adobe App Info, from Keychain Access, then sign in again to refresh your license. Also, make sure your subscription is active!

If none of these solutions work, don't worry — you’re not stuck!

Run Acrobat Diagnostics and send us the log ID. We’ll take it from there and help you get Acrobat running smoothly again.

Your experience matters!

  • Share what worked for you in the comments — it could help someone else!
  • Upvote tips you find helpful, and let’s build a resource we can all rely on!

I also work part-time as an IT guy in a non-profit organization and we have no issues with Acrobat compared to others here who have issues (let e knock on wood here!). For some of the staff, if they want to scan something, I tell the download Adobe Scan and not trust those other third party PDFs apps (I tell them the horror stories of malware, phishing apps or virus-laden apps that you always hear!)

This issue is beyond ridiculous.  My company pays a pretty penny for many of us to have this service and for it to crash constantly is unacceptable.  I have done all the things, I restart my computer at least 12 times a day, I check constantly for updates and I know our IT team is always making sure we are in top form.  I have better luck with free substandard scanning programs than I do with this program.  Its a hassle to use the free ones, but at least they dont constantly stop me from scanning.  Today it has crashed so much, I am lucky to get one document scanned before its crashed.  I dont know why it is so hard for this problem to be fixed.  I wont pretend to understand all the programming that is involved.  I just know that you are paid well for a program that is performing poorly.

Agreed. It's ridiculous to me that we spend so much money on a program that wont open. I have had to be open all my pdfs in my browser because that's the only way anything works. I don't have time to keep uninstalling and resintalling and running different cleaners or logs or any of this. I'm about to suggest we just cancel our subscriptions to Adobe alltogether and just go back to using a free reader because this is such a time suck trying to get it to funciton at even a base level.

For the record I *am* the IT team at my office, I'm savvy enough that this shouldn't be happening, and I dread the day that anyone else starts having similar issues and wants my help in fixing them.

I couldn't get my pdfs to print in black and white, so I followed some online tips to change the color settings, which made it so nothing would print at all. I then un-installed and reinstsalled my applications, multiple times, tried the cleaner tool, and now Acrobat won't open properly - I just get the attached blank screen or this error message.

I don't know what else I can do, but this is severely impacting my work day and I need to figure out how to get it to function properly again. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a file that crashes my Acrobat but works fine on other computers. It sometimes opens on mine, but more often than not, crashes Acrobat and I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del to get out of it.

Repeatable bug: On a Windows 11 system with both Hebrew and English support, switching from one language to the other is done by pressing left-alt-shift. This toggles the current language. Recently, just doing this from within Acrobat will crash it, repeatably, every time. If I switch to another screen and do the same, then return to Acrobat, it is OK. Cersion is 2024.005.20320 (acobe Acrobat Pro continuous release, 64 bit)
