Adobe Acrobat DC Highlighter

Community Beginner ,
Aug 31, 2017 Aug 31, 2017

Hello,

I am wondering how to get the highlighter tool that has the little circle and lets you highlight stuff in free form so I can drag it around like the pen tool? This seems to only work when it is a scanned document and if the document was downloaded, say a bank statement from a bank, the highlighter tool automatically goes to the tool as a rectangle and only lets you highlight by selecting text. I would always like to highlight free form with the circle.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

That sort of worked, but more so just creates a box that you can highlight stuff, so it really isn't the same as that free form highlighter that you can drag like a pen. Do you know if that is possible or that is only able to be used on scanned PDFs? I included a snip of the highlighter marker below that seems to only work when I try to use on a scanned pdf.

Thanks!

Use the Pencil commenting tool.

Yes, use the pencil commenting tool and change the opacity.

You can also use the drawing tools to draw shaped and change the opacity. Like this: Document Geek: Number Knitting #4: Virtual Coloring in Acrobat DC Using the Drawing Tools

Problem with using the Pencil commenting tool is that, even with the opacity down, it diminishes the clarity of the text. The highlight tool keeps text clear in the foreground. Black text highlighted will still be black, black text highlighted with the Pencil tool will be grayed out to various degrees.

What is desirable is a key to hold down that allows the freeform highlight circle to be used at all times on a document.

Yes, they use different blending options. What you're asking for is not currently possible (unless you create your own Highlighter tool using a plugin, for example), but you can ask for it to be added, here: https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html

Hello, I'm trying to use the WIndows pen to add comments on a PDF document. The default color is red. How can I change that?

Thanks for your help. Valerie

Hi FinePhotographs,

This tip will be a game-changer for you if you haven't discovered it already since this post is old...

Press CTRL + E to bring up the properties dialog box.  You can change font size, color, line style, etc... on anything created from the comment control frame.

Good Luck!

I would like to do the reverse 🙂  get rid of the 'circle' highlighter and get the one back that will let me do a whole paragraph at a time.

I'm trying to do the same! Not sure if it was the latest update or what, but my highlight text feature comes and goes.
