Adobe Acrobat Pro DC crashes when reducing file size

Community Beginner ,
May 01, 2020 May 01, 2020

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC crashes when reducing file size. This is when using File_Reduce file zie, or optimise PDF. This is not file specific.

System Report attached.

Mostly it crashes without an error. But I did see an error stating there was an error during flattening transparency. I turned transparency off in the Advanced Optimisation, but then it crashes with no error - program simply closes.

I've tried pring using Adobe and Microsft to PDF, the file size is twice as large.

Help appreciated.

Thanks

How large is the file? how many pages are you trying to optimize all at once?

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Adobe Acrobat DC
Make sure you have the latest version 20.009.20065 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates.

You may also try to repair the installation (For Windows Only) Go to Help > Repair Installation

If it still doesn't work, please create a new test user profile with full admin rights or enable the root account in Mac and try using the application there a nd check.

I am having a same issue. Re-Installing does not work. Error only on PC. I am using a Mac to open and reduce file sizes, as a not ideal work-around.

Adobe has not resolved. Also still having this issue and having my co-workers (on Mac platform) reduce file sizes for me.

Not a fix, but worked around this by opening the original file in acrobat -> print ->printer: adobe pdf(remember to check the pdf printing options how you want them) ->print new pdf file->open the new pdf file in acrobat->save reduced pdf

Fantastic!
Thank  you tsoolander!
This completely solved the problem. My one 233-MB PDF must have had some corruption. I am now able to shrink it down to 5.6 MB in just a few seconds. Thank you!
