Background images not printing when creating PDF from Word?

Hi I'm hoping someone can please help.

I am trying to create a PDF from file which is Word (2007 Windows OS) and the images (background) are not printing at all. I have also tried to print Adobe directly from Word doc. I have Adobe Acrobat DC Pro which should handle this. More specifically I am trying to PDF Avery 2" round labels each with a different image and text overlay. Only the text overlay will print. I've tried all of my files and have had luck with some and not so much with others. It is so inconsistent I'm not sure what to do. I was online with support earlier and they were no help at all. I just paid extra to upgrade to Pro thinking this would fix the problem. Any suggestions out there would be much appreciated!

Analysis and resolution of the issue:

Yvonne provided copies of the problematic files to me offline and I did some analysis and experimentation.

Creating PDF via PDFMaker seemed to work fine (at least with Word 2016 - she has Word 2007) and that should be the preferred method of PDF creation from Word (unless using EPS graphics which she wasn't).

However, I was able to duplicate her symptoms when attempting to create PDF via printing to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance, no matter what options I used in Word or the driver. What I did notice was the file in question was a very old Word format (a .doc file with Word 97-2003 compatibility). On a hunch, I saved the Word file with the current .docx format, closed Word, reopened the .docx file in Word and voila, the original problem went away (although there were some reflow issues - surprise) and the missing images now appeared in the PDF file created via the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance.

I have the same issue. I am using Word 2016, I have adobe dc pro. It keep reformatting my work once opened in adobe. What can I do? Should I download PDF Maker as well? How can I create a PDF using the Postcript printer?

I most strongly suspect that your problem has nothing to do with Acrobat at all, but rather, an obscure option setting in Microsoft Word.

In Word with your document open, go to File=>Options and select the Display panel.

Under Printing Options, you will find the option Print background colors and images. This option controls whether anything other than text is output for print or for PDF creation. Make sure that this option is checked and press OK.

Save the document and try creating PDF again. Let us know if this resolves the problem.

I really appreciate your help with this as I am beyond frustrated. My word display looks different. I opened the File-Tools-Options-Print; I already had the background printing option clicked and I had the include with document drawing objects checked as well since I embed my font and use word art. But that is all that seems to print- no images. I have also checked my settings under File- Print- Print- Properties-Adobe PDF Settings-Layout- Advanced Options- and checked Print Quality 1200 dpi, ICM disabled ICM Intent Pictures True Type Font. I've changed these back and forth and nothing seems to work. Do you have any other suggestions- this is happening with printing backgrounds in all of my Word label files where I formatted Autoshape, Fill in Color with Picture. None of them will print the backgrounds. I don't know if this info helps. However, a word file 11 x 8.5 with the same mages inserted or copied onto the word doc. with added text boxes, word art and in the same font WILL print everything. So I am assuming Adobe is not recognizing the image in the formatted auto shape. I have a used a Free online PDF that will print these images but it changes the custom font.

Please let me know if you have any other suggestions or if I could I send you the file and you could see if you can get it to work?

Could you please confirm the dot version of Adobe application and OS you are using.

Please share the exact steps you do to create PDF from Word file.

Could you please share the screenshot of the Word file you create and the PDF you get after conversion.

Is it possible that you can share the file with us, so we can check it on our end?

I am using Windows 7 OS on a Dell laptop. I have the latest Adobe Acrobat DC Pro (subscription service). I design party printables and convert word files to PDF so these are on Avery templates. I formatted each circle with fill in picture and used a word art overlay in Cygnetround font with metallic gold fill and I have embedded it since it is a special font. To PDF it I've tried multiples ways: I've gone straight to my Adobe Acrobat desktop under tools, create PDF, Select file, Create and I've tried Printing to Adobe PDF directly from the file itself. I've tried advanced settings, changing settings, and everything! Please let me know what you think is happening and what I should try next. This is happening to several of my files that have similar graphics and overlays. I just gave up last night and transferred everything to Serif Page Plus 9 but I would still like to solve this issue since I paid so much for this service.
