Question

Cannot print to pdf from microsoft edge in windows 10

I'm not sure if I have the right forum for this but I just upgraded to Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) and now I can't print to pdf in Microsoft Edge. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Sean

Concerning that Windows 10 was out for so long and no one from Acrobat checked it out to make sure Adobe Acrobat will work with Edge.

Surprising that no one from the Adobe Acrobat team tested this on a Windows 10 when W10 was available before launch.

Adobe does not give any indication to suggest they are working on this issue.

Further, MS is giving W10 free to any user from 7 so the risk of someone upgrading and losing Adobe Acrobat should be pre warned by Adobe, as it is an Adobe program.

The app company needs to confirm compatibility with platforms with their respective upgrades-as in a common, always worked on tool, as the browser.

I am sure and hope Adobe Acrobat team can release a message of being aware of the problem and a solution in time, while we can work on IE 11 in the interim. Though you want to be able to use MS Edge for its feature to cut out the ads and thus the adobe documents would also be more productive for all- the ads are a leading overbearing distraction- Edge can clean that out and printing same is a luxurious change from IE 11.

Please acknowledge to validate a potential solution in time.

Thank you!

Same thing happens when printing to PDF from Google Chrome in Windows 10 (Acrobat DC).

I tend to disagree with Snoman on this.  I believe the problem may lie with both Edge and IE 11.  After upgrading to Windows 10 I have been unable to download a complete pdf document that is displayed with Adobe Flash Player.  While trying to use Edge I had initial success but subsequent failures. The following error would come up: "Flash Modern Browser Print - Print" and "We couldn't reach this printer."  I changed over to IE and tried to print to pdf; however, only the first page of a 3+-page pdf document displayed with Adobe Flash on the webpage would come through.  This is true for Acrobat, Microsoft PDF Printer, or Nuance PDF.  It could very well be that my Dell Vostro 3700 (untested for Windows 10 by Dell) is not compatible with Windows 10.  Microsoft did determine that Windows 10 would work on my computer, so I went with it and kept my fingers crossed.  However, when I switched to Firefox everything worked perfectly.  That had never been the case with this particular website (CCLI: SongSelect).  Perfect "print to pdf" with Firefox and Windows 11.

I was also using Acrobat 9.5.

I, being an old fart, have used Microsoft for decades.  Before Windows, we had to type commands.  For some reason, Microsoft decided to take us back to the old days.  In order to print a pdf file from the Edge browser, you have to type the print command.  When you see your printable page, press and hold the <ctrl> key and type p.  That <ctrl> p is an ancient print command from Microsoft.  It should work from any browser.  It worked for me!!

Yes, I am experiencing the exact problem,

Here is one temporary fix:

On the webpage, in the bar at the top of the page, click the upper right corner three dots "..."

Select PRINT

This opens the print window.

From list of printers (top of window) select the printer MICROSOFT PRINT TO PDF

This creates a PDF and should automatically save it in the DOCUMENTS folder, but your system may save it elsewhere.  It does not give you a chance to select the folder within which you wish to save.  Pay attention because you will receive a comments box telling you where the PDF file is saved.  Locate the file and rename it according to your choice.  The action does not give you the option to select the folder to save, nor to provide a name.

Not much of a fix, even temporary. I'll stick with my own solution until Adobe decides to get a fix for this issue. I'll continue to use IE as my default browser. No issues printing to PDF from there. I'm just surprised that it's taking this long for Adobe to address the situation.

Don't make assumptions that it is necessarily a bug in Adobe code or that Adobe can fix this.

I just upgraded to DC pro because I thought it was a problem with my old Pro X. Crap, wasted my money. I work through my computer and have to download files and print to pdf, that's why I pay for Pro. This is unacceptable.

I have same problem - I cannot print to a pdf file using Microsoft Edge but yes it does work if I then press ... on the top menu bar - select 'Open in Internet Explorer' and then print.

Adobe - we would really appreciate a fix to avoid time consuming opening of new windows etc.

Thank you in anticipation!!

Same problem here. Cant print to pdf in Edge. Only selectable option is Adobe Print to PDF and it hangs up. Should I have Microsoft to PDF as an option in the drop down print menu?

Same problem, using Adobe XI Pro.  Haven't seen a fix yet, but would be a great update for Adobe.  Problem may stem from Edge not using add-in's yet (hello, Norton!).

Adobe, any fix on the horizon for this inability to select "print" then Adobe PDF as the printer from within Edge?

I'm not sure about you, snoman, but I can select "print" then Adobe PDF as the printer from within Edge, however, nothing happens. Until I hear that Adobe has this issue resolved, I reverted my default browser to IE. I can print to PDF from there. I hope someone from Adobe answers this issue soon.

I too select "print" then Adobe PDF as the printer from within Edge, however the adobe progress gauge that comes up [sometimes!] freezes at about 25%

Further to this post, I have printed to pdf from Microsoft Word, Excel, and Notepad with no issues. SO far, it only seems to be an issue with Microsoft Edge.

‌Did you try the Internet Explorer?

After searching for and finally finding Internet Explorer, I opened a page and was able to print to pdf from that. It seems that there is a compatibility issue with Microsoft Edge.
