Question

Creating a formula that uses a field name to call for a value and multiplies it by a number.

My formula:

"sub total" * .0825

Error saying "Invalid Number "sub total"
Basically needing to take the number I type into the "sub total" field and multiply it so that its  just automated and takes out a step when filling out the PDF.
What do I need fix or input into the formula to make this work?

Did you put this under simplified field notation?
If yes then field names with spaces doesn't work well, you need to escape space with backslash like this:
sub\ total* 0.0825

Are you trying to show a result in the same field (sub total) , or some other field?

Here is how it is laid out on my PDF.

Cost - (Number - Currency)

Discount - (Number - Currency)

Sub Total - (Cost - Discount)

Tax - (Sub Total * 0.0825) > Which now will be sub\total * 0.0825 as you both have corrected.

Total Cost - (Sub Total + Tax)

Use :

sub\ total * 0.0825
