Desktop pdf icons changed

New Here ,
Jan 19, 2023 Jan 19, 2023

Just installed the acrobat reader.  I guess I was originally using a windows pdf reader.  The desktop icons have now been changed to a square box that is primarily white with it outlined in red and and the adobe sign in the middle.  Under the Adobe sign is the "pdf" notation.

Is this the normal viewing when on the desktop?  The icons before I believe were like folders and now they are all primarily white.  Very glaring change and not used to it.  Is this the way the icons are supposed to appear now???

Hi @Rick28017333t94h

If you have installed Acrobat Reader Just now, the application icon will appear like this: Red outlined and white symbol.

And the PDF documents in Windows file explorer will look like this: White icon with red outlined on it.

If it's this way, then nothing to worry about.

If not, then please share the screenshot of what you see at your end. That would be easier to understand to confirm.

Thanks,

Akanchha

Hi @CapnDave,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble with using Acrobat.

When you say "no icon showing," are you referring to the standard PDF icon or the PDF preview thumbnail?

Would you mind sharing a screenshot of what you see now versus what you used to?

This will help us understand the situation better and provide you with proper troubleshooting.

Some basic troubleshooting steps you might want to try:

1. If the default application to open PDF files has changed, the file icon can change accordingly. To fix it, try the steps:

Right-click the file icon > More options > Properties > click Change to the right of "Open With" > select Acrobat > Apply > OK.

2. If you do not see the PDF preview thumbnail, try the steps:

(a) Open Windows Explorer > Go to View Tab > select Preview Panel.

(b) Open Acrobat > Menu > Preferences > General > check the box saying "Enable PDF thumbnail preview in Windows Explorer."

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Souvik.
