Question

Disable Logical Page Numbers update at organizing pages

Logical page numbers allow to follow the source book page numbering, when scanning a few pages from the book to a new PDF. Is there a way, extension or tool allowing to block renumbering logical page numbers, when later adding or deleting pages from the pdf?

For example, I've PFD with logical pages 630, 632, 634, 1280, 1560. When I later add a new scanned book page to it, or delete a page from it, or drag the page to a new location within the document, I need other logical page numbers be frozen, i.e. don't change. How to accomplish that?

Another question: how to add an offset to logical page numbers? For example, when scanning book pages, often 2 adjucent pages in the open book are scanned together as one document. After adding several such scanned pages to a new PDF and selecting a range of page thumbnails, how I can automatically add logical numbers in Page Labels with ofset 2, i.e pages 630, 632, 634 etc?

Oh man I am hoping that someone knows the answer to this. It's been 6 year since OP asked and I'm now flummoxed with the same issue.

Hello Alexander,

I hope you're doing well, and we apologize for the delayed response.

Unfortunately, Acrobat does not have a direct option to disable logical page numbers when organizing pages. However, you can manually adjust page labels to maintain the desired numbering. Go to Tools > Organize Pages > More Options > Page Labels and set the labels as needed,

You can manually set or adjust the page labels as follows:

  1. Open the Page Thumbnails Panel:

    • Navigate to View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Page Thumbnails.
  2. Select the Pages to Modify:

    • In the Page Thumbnails panel, select the pages you wish to renumber.
  3. Access the Number Pages Dialog:

    • Right-click on the selected pages and choose Number Pages.
  4. Set the Desired Numbering:

    • In the Page Numbering dialog box, specify the numbering style, starting number, and range as needed.

By manually setting the page labels, you can maintain consistent numbering even after organizing your document. For more detailed instructions, refer to the official guide on Rotate, move, delete, and renumber PDF pages.

Additionally, to control how page numbers are displayed during navigation:

  1. Access Preferences:

    • Go to Menu> Preferences (or Acrobat > Preferences on macOS).
  2. Modify Page Display Settings:

    • Select Page Display from the categories on the left.
    • Under Page Content and Information, check or uncheck Use logical page numbers based on your preference.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
