Exceptionally slow opening of website links within PDF files

Question

I prepare lots of documents which contain hyperlinks to external websites, but I am finding that these links are taking an unacceptably long time to open and my customers are complaining that the links don't work.

The links do work but it takew anything from 1 - 2 minutes to complete before offering the option to trust or block the website that is linked to. This is so slow that my clients assume the links are not responding and they give up.

I have gone into the Preferences settings and changed the security settings as below, but this made no difference:

Adobe Acrobat>Preferences>Security (Enhanced)>disable "Protected View" and "Enhanced Security">OK>

Is there some setting I can change when creating PDFs from Word files that would resolve this issue?

Did you ever get a resolution to this. Ridiculously slow to open web links. Same length of time for me, 1-2 Minutes, sometimes it just stops responding once a web link is clicked. Seems to be widespread looking at forums and reddit.
