Question

Fillable form will not submit via email

I have turned our membership form into a fillable PDF and put on our web site.  I was hoping that once the form was filled out, the e-mail button could be selected and the completed PDF would be emailed to the specified email address in the button properties.  Nothing happens.  I have tried in Safari and Google Chrome.  I also had someone try the form on a Windows PC.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  The link to the form is below.

Hey there,

Thanks for reporting this to us.

Would you mind confirming the Acrobat version you are working on? Did you install the latest patch and started noticing this behavior after that? Have you experienced this issue in past?

Let us know the:

  • Open Acrobat DC>Help>About Acrobat DC
  • OS version, exact Windows?

We need more details for further investigation on this.

Thanks,

Akanchha

Good morning,

I am using Acrobat Pro DC version 2019.010.20099 on a Mac running OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6

This is the first time that I have noticed this as this is also the first time I am trying to make fillable forms and to be able to have them emailed.

Does the email button work when the PDF is opened in Acrobat?

Submit buttons only work in Acrobat or compatible PDF viewers, of which there are only a few. Usually a browser will have it's own PDF viewer that has very limited capabilities. You need to ensure the PDF is only viewed in Acrobat, Reader, or another decent PDF viewer.

One way to force the user to download the PDF, if you are using <a> tag to link to your PDF, is to use the "download" attribute. For most browsers this attribute will cause the linked file to be downloaded (and displayed in the system viewer), rather than shown in the browser viewer.
