How do I change the setting for how non pdf documents are opened?

When I downloaded Adobe Acrobat, I was asked if I wanted the program to open all documents with it and I mindlessly answered yes. I do not actually want this to happen. I need my documents to open in the format in which they were sent to me (ex. Word) not all as PDF.

Well, I figured out that it was something with the Adobe Acrobat extension. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program without the extension and now it looks like things are back to opening and printing as normal.

Hi @defaultx8lnxbt8f2tp Sorry to hear about the trouble! The prompt should only be asking if you want .PDF files to open with Acrobat, not other file formats such as Word. But just to check, if you are on Windows, navigate to settings, default apps, choose default apps by file type. Here, you can see what programs are set to open which types and change them accordingly. Let us know if that helps!

Thank you for your reply. However, I double checked the settings and .doc files were set to open with Word, but they only open that way if I download them first. When I try to print a Word document that was sent as an email attachment it takes much longer than it should and eventually opens in the Adobe Acrobat program as a pdf.

I use gmail. I used to be able to print directly from my email before
switching to a new computer with Windows 11 and downloading Adobe. The
printer is the same that I had used previously and is a shared printer, so
the settings can't be changed just for me. Sometimes I just print things
for others and don't really want everything to take up space on my
computer, nor would I have time to go back and delete items after
downloading and printing. It seems to me the issue is specific to settings
in Adobe, since I never had the problem previously and since no one else in
the building who also uses gmail and the same printer I am using seems to
be having an issue (?)

Thank you,

I see, thanks for that extra information. Unfortunately, I can't duplicate your set up as I am not using Windows 11 or gmail. Hopefully, some other community users or an Adobe employee will have some more solutions for you. You could also try contacting Adobe support. So sorry I couldn't be of more help myself.
