I managed to delete digital signature stored in windows, but not the one with password using:

internet explorer:options:content:certificates.

only one signature there to delete,

i have one with password, and one without.

want to delete the one with password, or both if that is an option.

Hello RobertFMC,

Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. As per the description above, you want to remove the Digital Signatures, is that correct?

You can clear/remove a Digital Signature if you are the signer, that is if the digital ID with which you did the signing is available to Acrobat.

If you have forgotten the digital ID password you can detach it. Please navigate to Edit -> Preferences (Win), or Acrobat -> Preferences (Mac), then select Signatures -> Identities & Trusted Certificates -> More, Click on Digital ID Files, select the one you want to Remove and click Remove ID. After that, you can delete the .pfx file.

Note: You can only remove your Digital IDs. There is no such option to remove Digital IDs of other users from a PDF using Acrobat/Reader.

To know more about Digital IDs, you can refer to Adobe article Digital IDs in Acrobat

Feel free to update this discussion for any further assistance.

For Adobe Acrobat (on Windows):

  1. Advanced
  2. Security Settings
  3. Digital IDs
  4. Remove IDs

I have Acrobat X Pro and I created a new signature when I installed it on a new computer. Somehow I have lost the password and want to delete that signature and start over again. However, I do not find the path you show here - Edit -> Preferences (Win), or Acrobat -> Preferences (Mac), then select Signatures -> Identities & Trusted Certificates -> More, Click on Digital ID Files.

My path after Edit>Preferences show NO Signatures option.

In Windows, if it is a Digital ID file (Not Certificate) you can just delete it from the storage folder:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\Security\

(This may not work if you are signed in to Creative Cloud)

I'm not a child; I don't need Badges, Stickers or Gold Stars, I need ANSWERS.In IT they come to US for answers, WE MUST find them SOMEWHERE! That's YOUR job Adobe.

Hi Tom.

I use Acrobat 9 Standard, version 9.0.0.

There is no Signature choice on the left list under EDIT>Preferences.

Why would I have to pay for an Add-In to get that choice to appear and be able to delete Digital ID, That I don't remember having created to start with ?

When I click on Remove ID, I get the message :

"Removing a digital ID is only permitted if the ID was created by Adobe Reader or Acrobat version 8.0 or later"

But never ask for a password so I cannot enter one.

I created a new Signature yesterday and it works fine but I cannot get rid of those useless signatures.

So what is the free solution for that matter ?

hi, thanks for reply, but no it is not possible.

it is not possible to
delete the digital id you  have forgotten
your password, in this case it will still show.

If I hit the remove ID
button, it ask for password, witch we have forgotten.

Can we find it in roots and
delete there?

I am signed in, and still can not remove a signature.  What I am really try to change is adding a signiture to every email (remove encryption).  If I could do either I would be happy!

ME TOO! it's driving me insane. you can see it but it wont let me remove it. the button just doesnt do anything.

You need to login to the password certificate first, so that it can be seen. Preferences->Signatures->Digital IDs.
