Question

How to overcome "white object is not set to knock out"

Is there a tool in Acrobat DC which will convert a gradient constructed of PMS gray to white (Mac), behind a product with clipping path, so that the printed piece will look like the PDF displays? Currently the gray to white gradient becomes white when rasterized on the PC digital press RIP or also in Photoshop (PC). In Illustrator (PC), a message about unknown object appears.

Any insights are appreciated.

Please try the Preflight fix-up "Set white text and vector objects to knock out" available under "Prepress, Color and Transparency" library.

Hmm, gradients (smooth shades) are a little tricky for Acrobat Pro to edit. I know that this is possible with Enfocus PitStop Pro.

If this is a digital press print and the problem element is gray, you may just be able to get away with using ink manager to convert the spot gray to process CMYK before the file hits the RIP/DFE at the printer.

Illustrator is NOT a general purpose PDF editor which is why you are seeing that message.
