How to prevent Word hidden text from being visible in PDF output?

Here's a puzzler for you all . . .

According to Dov Isaacs in this thread: Solved: Show hidden Text in PDF - Adobe Community - 10444781, "If text is “hidden” in an Office document, it is not sent out either via a print path or a PDF creation path."

I'm experiencing the opposite: When I send my word doc to PDF (by any method), all of the hidden text shows up in the PDF output. How can I make it stop?

Thanks!

Thanks to a colleague, I found the culprit! . . . It's a Display setting in Word.

File > Options > Display > Printing options > Print hidden text must be deselected.
