Is there a way to convert PDF to PostScript?

Question

I have a need to print very large PDF documents (thousands of pages) to high-speed Xerox digital presses, but PDFs print too slowly because the print engine must rasterize the input to PostScript before actually printing it. PostScript files, on the other hand, don't slow down the print process. Is there a way to to use Acrobat DC to convert the large PDF documents to PostScript documents?

Ideally, this conversion would be able to be run or called from a Microsoft .NET 4 application running on Windows Server.

Save-As will do it, but it's possible that it might look different. PostScript doesn't have all of the features that are available in PDF, so some conversion might not look the same, but it might be OK. I'd check the printouts a little carefully.

Acrobat is not for use on a server (technical and licensing reasons). Printing PDF files does not "rasterise to PostScript" though some old fashioned print engines may convert to PostScript first.

Still, you can do performance checks easily by Saving a PDF as PostScript in Acrobat. See how the performance compares. Maybe your PDF files have a high transparency flattening overhead.

If you are stuck with the hardware, maybe you need to examine your PDF production methods. Do very simple PDF files also print slowly? If not, then simplify your PDF files.
