Losing Format on PDF Fillable Form when merged

I have a fillable pdf form with formatting on the fields and fields are locked.

I have used a couple of PDF Merge and Split apps to combine this form with a pdf document.

They are combined and the form remains fillable, however the formatting on the form fields is no longer in place. For a numeric field which is formatted to show as $zz,zz9.99 - on the original form if you enter 100 it shows as $100.00 when entered. In the merged document this field simply shows 100.

Anyone able to suggest what I can use or how to maintain the formatting when merged.

I do not know how to deal with scripting !

When you want combine a XFA form with a other PDF document in Adobe Acrobat use the portfolio option.

Use Acrobat to merge the files.

I am using Acrobat 8 Professional - I know it is an old version but I do not use sufficiently to merit the latest and greatest version.

Acrobat 8 will not combine a PDF Document and a PDF Form - throws an erroe and asks to correct file types.

> Acrobat 8 will not combine a PDF Document and a PDF Form

Not true. In fact, there's no difference between the two. A PDF form is a PDF document.

There's something else at hand if it won't let you combine the two files. For example, one of them is digitally signed, or was created using LCD.

Hi Gerard

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described the format of the form field changes when merged with a different PDF file.

As mentioned you have used couple of PDF merge and split apps to combine this form, would you mind sharing the steps you did to merge the PDF form with another PDF file?

As the form fields retain their format in the original PDF form, you may try to create a PDF portfolio to include this form with other PDF document and see if that works for you. To know how to create the PDF portfolio please check the help page - https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/create-customize-pdf-portfolios.html

Let us know how it goes

Hello Amal,

For the combined form I used https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9P4TCNS9H432 PDF Merger & Splitter.

Followed the instruction to load the PDF files and then merged them into a single document. I have also used SysTools PDF Split and Merge (purchased product) with the same results.

I will try the portfolio method and let you know how I get on.

Thanks for the advice

Gerard.
