So in cases like in the image below is there any way to make black text/parts more visible?

From within Acrobat, no. It's too late.

These imperfect letters were caused at the time of the original scan and that data is now gone and cannot be retrieved.

While I do not address this specific issue directly, it is inferred in a blog I wrote some time back for Adobe.

Please check out this blog and if you have any further questions, please ask.

BTW, the better way to include a screenshot is by importing the screenshot via clicking the icon below will let you add the screen shot IN the forum thread.

Any recommendations for programs to do Histogram (or however the process you described in your post is called)? Free would be preferable. Tnq!

Hi Fico,

If you have a scanner than that scanner did come with scanning software. As I mention in my article, Acrobat CANNOT do any scanning. Rather it utilizes links to other scanning software. If you are on a Mac, than you are limited to "Image Capture" IF you want to scan directly from Acrobat. If you are on a PC, you are possibly scanning with the software that came from your scanner but I have no way of knowing. Either way, your scanner either came with software that may or may not have been installed at the time you got your scanner or it can be downloaded from the manufacturer of your scanner.

That software should be free because it came/comes with your scanner.

Do not bother to scan from within Acrobat, do not do it. Scan from the software that came with your scanner. Follow the guides I have in that Blog.

Good luck!
