Merging indexed pdfs

I'm trying to merge two indexed pdfs into a single pdf while retaining the indices.  Anyone have success?

Ah, Ok. That's not what we'd call an index, I think. What you have is a PDF portfolio, which isn't a single PDF file with an index, more like a big collection of separate PDF files in a wrapper. So your question is whether you can combine two existing portfolios (of emails). I suspect not, but I'd like to hear from someone who knows more about it than me.

Sorry I still don't know what you mean by index or "automatically index". Because the word means lots of things and none of them seem to fit here. Please explain what you see Without using the word index. Or a screen shot, but please don't email it.

When I add an email message to an existing pdf, Adobe builds a list of files within the pdf for easier search/tracking.  I want to merge two pdfs with multiple messages into one pdf and retain the file list.  I've tried using the insert file function within "organize pages" function but I can only add the pages to one document and not append the messages to the file list.

What do you mean by "indexed" in this case?

I append pdf documents in a single pdf when the documents or messages are similar in nature.  Adobe automatically indexes as pdf's are added.  I want to merge two pdfs that contain numerous messages but I don't want to lose the index.
