no distinction between strikethrough and replace when using comment tool

When I select text and then click on the strikethrough tool (image 2143), the text I'm intending to delete appears in the comment field (as if I've used the replacement tool) (image 2143-1). Then I have to (remember to) manually delete it. If I select the text and then press delete on my keyboard, however, it works as it should--the unwanted text has a strikethough and the comments field autofills with "Strikethough text" (image 2144). My colleagues seem to be able to use strikethrough to get the program to directly register the deletion as "strikethrough text." What am I not doing?

Thanks so much, Document Geek! I appreciate your time. I tried solving this through Adobe Support chat and two different tech support agents told me that there was no way to change the strikethough workflow!
