Question

Open local PDSs in Edge extension

Hello,

I've recently installed the Acrobat extension for MS Edge and for some reason, PDFs are only displayed in the extension viewer when I open them directly from a website. Local files however are displayed using the standard Edge PDF viewer.

Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

Hi Fabian,

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described, the default PDF viewer for your local PDF files is MS Edge and not Acrobat DC.

Please try to make the Acrobat DC as the default PDF viewer as described here https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/not-default-pdf-owner-windows10.html and check.

Also, it is a know issue with MS Edge becoming the default PDF viewer. Please go through the similar discussion i have found on MS support page https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/microsoft-edge-keeps-making-itself-the-default-pdf/08212e29-8bee-4c17-9339-bb49281e9899?page=1 and see if that helps.

Let us know if you are referring to something else.

Hi Amal,

thanks for your reply.

What I intended to acchieve was to use the edge browser with the Acrobat EXTENSION as default PDF viewer for local files, not the Acrobat desktop application. The extension works great when I open a PDF from an external site, but not when I open a PDF from my computer's file system. In this case, the file is displayed in the default Edge PDF viewer.

Best regards,

Fabian

Hi Fabian

The Acrobat extension on MS Edge is used to view the online PDF files. To open the PDF files stored locally on your system it has to be with Adobe Acrobat/Reader DC application as described earlier.
