Question

Pages disappeared while editing one of them

While I was editing one page of a five page document all of the pages disappeared except the one that I was editing. This is the second time this has happened. I am working in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC continuous release 2020.012.20043

I would appreciate any help with this. I would really hate for this to keep happening. Would like to know if this has happened to anyone else.

Hi there

Would you mind sharing the version of the Acrobat and the OS you are using? Also, make sure you have the application updated to the recent version 23.06.20380. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer.

What is the workflow/steps you are doing to edit the PDF? A small video recording of the same would be very helpful.

I have a similar problem and it's happened to me twice in one sitting. I am using the Combine Files feature to rearrange my pages.  After doing so I have lost the last six pages.  They are not blank, just completely gone; the document length is reduced from 30 to 24. This is extremely inconvenient to have to do over and over again. Now I will have to rescan the pages.

Hi Jessica,

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble.

Would you mind sharing the version of the OS and Adobe Acrobat/Reader DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latst version 21.01.20135 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates.

Also, please try to repair the installation (Windows Only) from the Help menu > Check for updates. and reboot the computer once.

You may also try to turn off the protected mode for testing (Win Only) Go to Edit > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck 'Enable protected mode at startup' Turn off the protected mode and uncheck 'Enhanced Security' > Click OK and reboot the computer

Note: Please turn on the security after testing to avoid any security risk.

Regards

Amal

Did the number of pages decrease, or are there now pages that are blank?  Can you provide a before/after screenshot, maybe?

My best,

Dave

Hi Dave,

It has happened again. I have saved the file this time and redacted the customers information. I tried to enter one number of 7 digits and it kept making all my pages disappear. I repeated this three times and it happened all three times. I finally did not edit the document at all to be able to use it. I tried to attach the file but Adobe Acrobat doesn't support a .pdf?

Sorry about that!!!

Is this a scanned PDF by chance?  Opening a blank page, doing a Ctrl-A (select all) brings up a dialog stating that it's a scanned PDF, and an OCR must be performed.  If scanned, what sort of edits are you performing (redactions?).

The more details you can give, the better shot someone has at helping!

My best,

Dave

Hi Donna

We are sorry for the trouble. As described the pages disappeared while editing

Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check.

Please try to reboot the computer once and try again to edit and see if that makes any difference.

As you have the latest version installed, please try to repair the installation (For Windows Only) go to Help > Repair Installation.

Is the file stored on a shared network/drive? If yes, please try to download the file to your computer locally and then try to edit and check.

Please try to turn off the protected mode for testing and see if that makes any difference. Go to Edit (Windows), Adobe Acrobat (Mac) > Preferences > Enhanced Security > uncheck 'Enable protected mode at startup', turn off the protected mode and uncheck the enhanced security > Click OK and reboot the computer.

Note: Turning off the security may possess security risks, please turn on the security after testing.

If turning off the protected mode works for you, please try to add the file and the folder to Acrobat whitelist.

Go to Edit (Windows), Adobe Acrobat (Mac) > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Add File and Add Folder path > Click OK and reboot the application.

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal
