I've JUST downloaded a free trial version of Acrobat with a view to editimg some PDF's of Bank Statements for annotation for my tax return - and I am blocked from editing because - it says- the documents nare password protected - ID or licence number required. hitting "lean more" asks me to validate further access

i have no recollection of setting up the password. the files were downloaded from my bank and i as far as i can tell *I* "created" the files?acrobat learn more.JPGacrobat password.JPG

Hi

Thanks for reaching out with your question.
It clearly seems the document is password protected, it cant be applied of its own. To know more you may check this help page: https://adobe.ly/4he0tKn

To check document security, open file, choose Ctrl/Cmd + D - Document properties window will pop up, check security tab and it should show security applied on this document.

Let us know if you have further questions.

forgive me it does indeed appear I am in error. this document was an older document and i tried editing one that I know i downloaded just the other day and the editing tools were available to me

at some point after downloading the older file I must have chosen an option to password protect or it became password protected through some other action i took

i apologise for wasting your time

however I couldn't get a report on the document using [CTRL]+[D] - that facilitated  a request to send it to the Recycle bin!

I'm going to try downloading fresh versions of the older PDF's and I am hoping they will be similarly accessible

I have a second issue

I am presently enjoying the benefit of the 7 day free trial - and I need to convert a JPEG to PDF-

but I keep getting this screen - (see below) - i was under the impression i had access to all tools with the trial of acrobat reader? Would you be kind enough to advise, and I apologise in advance if once again the fault is mine.

thank you

Hi, @paul_2174, if you downloaded these files from a bank, the bank directly or indirectly secured the files.

Let's say the bank owed you $10. If the files were not protected, someone could change that to $10,000. Just to verify, I downloaded a document from my credit card company, and it was locked. I also downloaded a file from my bank, and it was locked.

If you want to make changes to your file, I suppose you could print it out, scan it, and OCR the file. Not sure how far you can get with that if you contest the contents, but you could edit the file.
