Question

PDF Document (Form) information disappears after saving and reopening

I have a PDF form I need to fill out, and save with the form fill completed. To then later re-open and finish filling out the form multiple times (it is a government form that needs to be completed in a specific timeline with different stages spanning 2+ weeks in total).

I fill out the first stage information, save (and I have also tried save-as). To reopen it a couple days later to fill out more information, and when the Acrobat app first opens: the data shows for a split second and then the already filled form fields go blank.

I have verified it is not a read-only document. I downloaded it directly from the government site as a fillable form, and have only tried using Acrobat to view/edit the document. I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 32-bit version and it is up to date according to Creative Cloud. I have attached the file.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Sorry, the file didn't attach the first time.

Hi @unaschade

There are a couple of things you didn't say.

  • Are you working on the form in a browser, Acrobat DC (paid), Acrobat Reader (free), or another PDF reader?
  • If you are not working on the web, where is the file stored? Don't assume anything, but on purpose save the PDF in a specific folder where you can find it later. If you don't do this, it may go to an obscure part of your computer.
  • Have you tried filling out a small portion, then save, close, and reopen in the same session? Does that work?
