I have tried to open a PDF in Acrobat Reader. Reader says it is password protacted but it isn't. How can I access this file? Thank you

Correct answer Amal.

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

If Acrobat Reader is asking for a password when opening the file, it usually means the PDF has some level of security or encryption applied, even if you didn’t set one yourself. A few things you can try:

1. Confirm with the sender – If you received the PDF from someone else, check with them to see if a password was added before sharing.

2. Check for corruption – If the file was downloaded or transferred, it may be partially corrupted. Try downloading it again or ask the sender for a fresh copy.

If none of these steps help, the file may genuinely be password-protected and only the document creator can provide the password.

thanks Amal. I have created the file myself and I know there isn't a password attached. A Google search shows that others have had the same problem. The file hasn't been sent anywhere but I'll look into corruption.

Thanks again
