Postscript error typecheck when creating PDF in Framemaker 11

When I try to create a PDF using Acrobat DC Pro with FrameMaker 11, I get the message: %%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: findfont ]%%

I do not know how to correct this. I have tried reinstalling both Acrobat DC and FrameMaker, and also the Courier font...no luck. Has anyone else had this issue and were you able to correct it?

I assume you are creating a Postscript file then Distilling it?

And the big question, does your file NEED Courier?

I suggest you change your settings in Distiller to "Warn and Continue" instead of "Cancel Job" and see if that helps.

This issue comes from the fact that the newest Acrobat Distiller does not come with the old Type 1 "fall back" fonts built into the program anymore. Postscript files from older programs/print drivers usually never bothered to include Courier, nor any of the old Standard 13, like Helvetica.

You could delve into the printing properties of your printer driver's Device Settings > Font Substitution Table and make a change there. Often, in years past, it was typical for a PS driver to substitute "Courier New" with "Courier", and "Arial" with "Helvetica". Change the setting to "Don't Substitute" and that might solve your issue if the above tips don't work.

Thank you Brad.
My setting was already "Warn and continue", so that didn't work. I also tried changing the driver setting to "Don't Substitute", but unfortunately that didn't help either. I also tried printing to a PS file, and then opening it in Distiller, but that failed as well.
I've had this issue before, but I was able to clear it by reinstalling FrameMaker 11 and Acrobat DC Pro. That didn't solve the problem this time.
This only seems to be only with FrameMaker. I had the same thing happening when I was creating PDFs from Chrome. However, I found that the problem was with Chrome. I switched to Firefox and it worked fine. Since I have FrameMaker installed on my desktop, I have no idea why this is happening. I assume it is that FM11 just isn't compatible with Acrobat DC anymore.

Again, thank you. I appreciate your help.

I have another fix for you but before I go into that, open one of your PS files in a text editor; scroll to the bottom and close to the end, it will list the fonts required and those supplied. Based on what's happening, Courier should be listed under "required", which indicates it wasn't downloaded.

In your Distiller settings, open up Font Locations and see which folders are there. Acrobat looks in these folder for font outlines. If you DO have Courier in Type 1 (specifically PFB files) and they aren't in any of the folders, add a new folder with them in it. You might want to stow Type 1 Helvetica and Times in there as well if you have them.

If you are printing to Adobe PDF instead, the same settings will be found in there.
