Reading Order Glitch - All Tagging fails after tagging a background/artifact

Hello, I am working with a document that I believed was fully tagged, but after running accessibility checker, I've missed a bit. 

Long story short: I was forced to re-start on this document several times due to a glitch with "reading order" tool. After tagging anything as a background/artifact, it causes the tool to hang - not the program, but the tool. The tool seems to be working but the tag will not take effect. It seems to have lost execution? 

I have other items I need to tag and nothing I do actually works to tag anything. I've tried going through the tag panel. Still doesn't work. 

 

This document was created in InDesign by others, but is being remediated by myself. I cannot use any accessibility from InDesign as I don't have authority. 

My computer (iMac) is running the latest Adobe Acrobat DC. As I said, this happened to my PC, my Macbook Pro AND my iMac.

This is a known bug in Acrobat for the past few versions. You can't convert an element to Artifact from the Order panel (the "blue Z" tool on the left side).

 

Artfact the element from the Tags panel instead:

  1. Expand the tag (such as <Figure>) to show the yellow content container inside the tag.
  2. Right-click on the yellow content container and select Artifact.
  3. The yellow container disappears, but leaves behind and empty tag <Figure>. You can tell it's empty because it's missing the expansion arrow on the left and no longer has any content!
  4. You can now safely delete the empty tag.

    I didn't Auto-tag because my document is too complex for that. If there isn't already a tag for it, what can I do?

    And how do I manage tagging other types of things within the tags panel?
