Hi I have edited a PDF file, by adding a rectangle. Then exported to EPS, but the rectangle is not there.

Can you please help?

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out, and sorry to hear you're having trouble.

When you add a rectangle to a PDF in Acrobat and then export it to EPS (Encapsulated PostScript), sometimes annotations or added elements—like rectangles—might not be included in the exported file. This usually happens because Acrobat treats these shapes as annotations rather than page content, and annotations aren't always exported to formats like EPS.

Here’s what you can try:

Solution: Flatten the PDF before exporting

  • Open your PDF in Acrobat.
  • Go to Print (File > Print).
  • Select Adobe PDF as your printer.
  • Under "Comments & Forms," choose "Document and Markups".
  • Click Print and save the new file.

This process will "flatten" the annotations, converting them into actual page content. Now, try exporting the flattened PDF to EPS—the rectangle should appear.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you Amal, this helped, although the colors did change. Can this be avoided, please?

Hi there,

We are glad to hear the steps worked for you!

As for the color changes you noticed — this can sometimes happen if the PDF has layers. We suggest trying the same steps with a different PDF file to see if the issue continues.

Let us know how it goes.
