Hi @ABD94500,

That’s a great question, and it’s an important distinction to make. In Acrobat, editing and redacting are two separate workflows that serve different purposes.

  • The Edit PDF tool allows you to modify text, images, and layout. It’s focused on document content and formatting.

  • The Redact tool, on the other hand, is designed for secure information removal. Once you apply redactions, the selected content is permanently deleted from the file — it’s not just hidden or masked.

Because of that, these two tools can’t be used at the same time in a single editing session. You can, however, edit the document first, make any layout or content changes you need, and then apply redactions afterward to safely remove confidential data before sharing the file.

If your goal is to adjust content while preparing redactions, a good approach is to:

  1. Use Edit PDF first for any changes.
  2. Save your file.
  3. Then open it again and use Redact → Mark for Redaction → Apply.

This ensures both accuracy and security.
