Hi,

Documents generated with google doc, then converted in a pdf format and approved via adobe sign (e-signature).

Issue: the links of the table of content are no more working.

The browser opens a new tab with an Error:

404. That’s an error.

The requested URL /h.3vjbhsugt32b was not found on this server.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble.

When you export a Google Docs file to PDF and then process it through Adobe Sign for e-signature, the file is flattened during the signing process. This means interactive elements like hyperlinks (including clickable Table of Contents links) can sometimes stop working, especially if they were pointing to Google Docs’ internal anchor links or temporary URLs.

The “404” error you’re seeing is because the link in the PDF still points to a Google Docs-specific internal link, which no longer exists once the document is finalized and hosted outside Google Docs.

Please try the steps below and see if that works:

  • Before exporting from Google Docs, convert the Table of Contents links to absolute URLs or ensure they are standard bookmarks within the document.
  • Use PDF editing software (like Acrobat) to create internal bookmarks or re-link the TOC entries after export, before sending for e-signature. https://adobe.ly/4mLp0Jh
  • If you need to keep internal navigation in the signed PDF, create it directly in Acrobat, then upload that version to Adobe Sign.
