Recent upgrade to Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 2023.008.20470.
I have lost the ability to add text boxes with borders with this NEW version, to existing PDF's. Does anyone know where this functionality went? This is very frustrating. It used to be in Comments--> Squares/Rectangles.
I can find New Text. I can find new Squares or new Rectangles. But I CANNOT create "new text boxes with borders" all-in-one, with this new version. Please don't suggest it is in "Prepare a Form". That is not the same as a free form text box with a border. I need to create a new text box with a border with text that automatically wraps to the next line according to the size of the box.
What happened? I paid a lot of money for a new version that produces LESS functionality.

Hello. Thank you for the response.
I have Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 2023.008.20470.
Can you show me the EXACT workflow you do to get to that Text box with border? I still do NOT see that as an available option in my version. Please provide me with a screenshot showing me how you got to that TEXT BOX. From which menu?
Thank you.

That is a non-answer and I think you know that.
The person did not want to know if this tool is still available. He wanted—and so do I—where the tool is now located since the layout and icons changed.

The best that I found is to revert to the old Adobe Acrobat version. Go to View settings and select the option to revert to the old user interface.

This apparently renders the program less than functional. Do not do this.

okay... so how do I get to "text box Properties"? because this doesn't exist anymore in Adobe Acrobat latest version (2024). This answer is not correct

Where did you find it? I also am experiencing the same issue with the new version. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But that will be a comment not a simple text box, correct. Say you print with comments—wouldn't the comment notation also print? I believe this tool will appear like the text box but it is not...unless that is part of the update, to combine the two. Also, you cannot control the background to be the same as the text box tool.
Thanks for adding the information.

I cannot believe we have to do this, but it works (mostly). @Adobe, please understand that folks need to label attachments, and these could be things like maps (I need a white background & if the map is not my original creation, then no I cannot just "add during production", that's what Adobe is for), deeds, etc. The fact that this is not a simple option available in the Create Text function is off the rails wild.

it really is wild bc if they don't fix it a lot of us will move onto better PDF editors. Why are you SUCH A PITA Acrobat? I've loved you for nearly 20 years & you just go backwards it seems

I have the smae issue it is very frustrating - I badgered my boss to let me have Adobe Pro and now I find I cannot even add a border to a text box. I can add a border in word or excel so this for me was a big waste of money. I have spent hours today trying to create a form in adobe pro and cannot add borders. If you create a rectangle you cannot add a text box or see the text because it is BEHIND THE RECTANGLE!! The functionality is poor and not what it claims to be. It would have been quicker for me to leave this in excel!!! Not impressed. Basic functionality very lacking.

Hi @Dave35022605zmuc ,
With the Modern viewer in Acrobat, we have placed the Add text box commenting tool in Quick tools.
I'm attaching a short video to show where it is in quick tools. please let us know if you have any more concerns.

So now the text box is in a separate category from the other 'markup' tools, like the drawing tools (rectangle, line, etc.). So, if I want to markup a file and then edit those markups I have to constantly switch between the comments and document editing sections? This is absolutely terrible functionality, making a simple task cumbersome and far too time consuming. Not to mention the 'edit' tab just terribly inconvenient. Both in placement and functionality. Why is it locked in one side and separate from the toolbar? Why are all of these tools not just located in one section.
And why do we have to constantly switch between 'Select' and 'Pan' when trying to edit? Why does the 'Pan' setting not still offer selection? If I'm working on a larger document then I want to be able to pan across it and select what I'm editing without having to constantly change my mouse setting.
I just made a business case to have my company upgrade my adobe account to Pro and I'm instantly regretting it.

I have selected the icon from the video and my text still does not have a box or a way to add one. This used to be so simple...

I have been having the same issue with the new version (which is terriable) but, I believe that I have found the correct tool, it is buried in the customize tool bar menu. I have attached a screenshot of it. Hopefully this helps!
