Unable to remove PDF password.

I need to remove a password from a PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5. I open the file, using the password, go to file>Properties and select "No Security" from the Change Security drop down menu. I enter the document password when prompted and I get a message saying the password is incorrect. What am I missing? Is this referring to some other password?

Correct answer Test Screen Name

A PDF document may have two passwords

1. "Open password" is needed to open the file and view it. Security restrictions may apply.

2. "Permissions password" is needed to remove or change security.

This is necessary, otherwise the security options on a password protected file (with open password) could be removed by anyone.

kathrynsilvaconway: You probably have only open password. You need , as TSN stated, to have the permissions password in order to remove or change security.

Hey kathrynsilvaconway,

Thank you for posting on Adobe forums.

Once you choose 'No security' option, the password is removed from the document.

Refer: Password Security using Adobe Acrobat 8 or 9

Please share the screenshot of the window that prompts you to enter password.

Let me know.

Regards,

Anubha
