Using Acrobat Pro 9 (Mac) to embed non-flash videos

Dear Friends,

I hope someone will take pity on an Old Guy trying to use legacy software to create interactive PDFs for a client. I am using Mac OS 10.11.6 on a Mac Mini late 2014 with Indesign CS 8.0.2 to try to create interactive PDFs for my last remaing client. So far, all the interactive hyperlinking (internal and external) has been working well.
However, now we want to embed video in the published PDFs, and that's partially broken. When the client views the PDF in Acrobat Reader, all is well. But when they view it in their Firefox or Chrome browser, the video will not play/react to any kind of hovering/clicking/etc. I get the same non-response on my computer. I assume this is because FLV has been deprecated in browsers.
Any advice on how to export a PDF without having everything converted to FLV would be greatly appreciated!

Dear Friends,

Thank you both for your thoughful replies. In my client's case, we decided the easiest solution was to not embed or attach the video at all. They put the video in a directory on their web site, and I put a hypertext link to it in the document. Because, as mentioned originally, most, if not all, of the client's members are reading the "Digital Magazine" online in their web browsers (the source of the problem!) they can very easily watch the video "outside" the PDF. Phewph! A tempest in a teapot! The PDF is being posted this week. I hope to get some response to this, for my client, new venture. I f so, I'll try to remember to come back and let you know the outcome!

Thank you again!

There is another "offline" workaround: place the video file as an attachment into the PDF, and create a link that opens this attachment.

So the video will be played externally using the default video player.

There is a problem with interactive  PDFs on PDF viewers not by Adobe, and Reader on mobile devices. The only work around I have found is to have the videos on some external site (youtube/vimeo) and then have external link as an option for those that cannot view video in PDF. Part of the problem is because readers don't support the full set of PDF standard. The second part of the problem is that interactive parts of PDF rely on Flash that is not supported on all devices since Apple decided to gate keep flash player from IOS devices. Flash will not work in Catalina and possibly other OS. I would reccomend going to Fixed layout EPUB for richer interactive experiences. If you want to host by yourself use In5 plugin from Ajar.
