I'VE SPENT A HALF HOUR NOW, ON A TIGHT DEADLINE, TRYING TO FIND THE VERTICAL SCROLL NBARS IN THE NEW ACROBAT PRO CONTINUOUS RELEASE VERSIOJN 2023.  WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DO THIS TO US?  THE WEB IS FULL OF PEOPLE TRYING TO FIND THESE SCROLL BARS!  I'VE GOT A 230 PAGE PDF TO EDIT AND I'M HAVING TO USE THE UP & DOWN ARROWS TO MOVE ONE PAGE AT A TIME!

WHERE ARE THE SCROLL BARS?!!  [Repeated text removed]

Correct answer Amal.

Hi All

The issue has been addressed with the new version of Acrobat (23.08.20555) and now we have a preference to enable the scroll bar in Mac.
Please find details for the fix here:- https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/scroll-framework-upgrade-macos.html

At what point did any user ask to remove scroll bars to save 20 pixels of space? When did anyone ask for scroll bars to be available in only some views but not others? It's really not that hard, or at least it shouldn't be.

It seems that Adobe no longer knows how to make life miserable for its customers. Or perhaps they have new managers who need to prove their potential. And customers suffer as a result. It's been almost two years, and Adobe is still unable to fix such a basic issue. The latest version in which the sliders work for me and performance is not affected by AI is 23.003.20284.

My solution (on Windows 11, at least):

Setting "View"-"Display Size" from "Small" to "Standard" brought my scrollbar back, finally.

It's telling that Adobe have emailed to say this has been marked as having a correct answer, when the answer, and no disrespect to the helpful user, is related to Acrobat Reader on a PC. My system is a Mac running Acrobat Pro.

Like most of you no doubt, I've just learnt to swallow this manure now, just thankful that it's possible to avoid the new version or that it's not as specularly buggy as most of creative cloud.

Amal / Adobe, can you please give us all an update for when this will be fixed. And please also reply to my previous question.

I figured it out for me finally. I went to File>Properties>Initial View tab>User interface options & unchecked hide tool bars & unchecked hide window controls. (Hide menu bar was already unchecked. It worked for my document anyway. 🙂

I go to File>Properties>Initial View tab and there is no "User Interface Options" showing. Could be because I'm on a Mac version.

Despite Amal's breezy message that all is well, and his self-assigning it as "the correct answer," no, this has not been fixed. I'm not sure that anyone at Adobe is listening to the details enough to be hearing the problem. They're all  probably too busy convincing each other that AI is the most important thing. No, basic functionality is the most important thing.

I'm on Sonoma 14.5 on Macbook Pro. I went back to the previous Acrobat Pro version because I hated the new format, all the panels obstructing my page view, the non-user-friendly interface and the fact that even after a few months of using it, I was still having to search for icons and tools.

On version 2024.002.20893 I went to View > Page Display > and checked "Enable Scrolling" and I'm now getting both scroll bars. The comments scroll bars only show up if I have enough comments that it runs over, and the page scroll bars show up if I'm only viewing a portion of a page (zoomed in), OR if I have more than one page. I still have to select "enable scrolling" whenever I open a new doc, but I can live with that.

This only works if you don't want to view the whole page at once. AS soon as you switch to whole page view, the scroll bars disappear.

Maybe it's the version, I went back to an earlier version and they don't disappear for me as long as I have one of the scrolling options checked (Enable scrolling, or Two page scrolling). I zoom in, zoom out, fit to page and the scroll bars stay. When you say, "whole page view" I assume you are speaking of "fit to page"?

Hi all,

I gave up reeading all the comments as it is all too much.

@Amal. I have no idea why you say Acrobat has been updated when it is still not working. I am summarise this simply in case there has been a missunderstand.

The scrolls bars do not show when you have the 'Comments' Panel open. I can see scroll bars for the page, but I want to be able to see scroll bars for the comments panel. See attached screen grab of a current doc I am working on.

CAN WE PLEASE GET THIS FIXED ONCE AND FOR ALL?

Amal.

Any updates on this? Scroll bars on a document processing app is not an unusual request....

Does getting the scroll bars back mean having to update to the complete POS new version of Acrobat? I'd rather not risk ever seeing that appalling GUI ever again than have scroll bars and lose the "disable POS update" option,. Does the update link above from the Adobe chap still include the classic environment option?  Honestly at this point I'm considering getting our entire Creative Cloud contract cancelled based on how appalling this issue is.

I simply downloaded the 2020 version, and I am on Mac 2020 running Big Sur. It works perfect for me. I am not using the new version, the scroll bars still don't work.

They are there now in Adobe Acrobat Pro continuous release 2023.008.20555

Look under preferences / Page Display -- there's an option in the section called "Page Content and Information": "always show scroll bars."

Then close and reopen the app.

Would be great, if it would work.

I just cancelled my annual subscription which was due to renew in a few weeks because of issues like this. I'm going to go ahead and purchase the 2020 disk at my local office supply store. It will require a larger initial outlay than a renewal but I will get several years out of it and I won't have to worry about the program interface being changed.

That may have catastrophic consequences for your PDF data. It seems hat preview changes data in some cases.
