Why am I forced to login with my Adobe ID in order to open a PDF file?

Hi there,

I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and I don't understand why are you conditioning my opening a PDF file to loging in with my Adobe ID? This is quite frustrating, I can't stand this kind of intrusion in my personal sh*t. Everything is up to date, no need to ask me that.

Please advise

You need to log in to run any subscription product. This is so Adobe can check you are still paying. Nothing to do with what you open.

If you just need a PDF reader without all the bells and whistles of an Adobe Pro account, uninstall your current version of Adobe.  Then, go here:

    https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Fill out the form and install this version of Adobe.  That should get rid of the login prompt.

    Sincerely,

I don't pay an Adobe subscription and just use the free Reader, but I still have to log in each time I want to open a document!  It logs me out all the time, and what I find really annoying is that when I close my laptop with the programme open and reboot, the programme stops me doing ANYTHING! until I log in.  Why is the programme acting like some sort of malware and hijacking my computer??

A similar problem seems to have reappeared in 2023 with the latest Acrobat version because of a option in the general preferences, "show me messages when I launch Adobe Acrobat", which makes a login window pop-up for each PDF document one want to read. Frustrating but easy to solve, login once and unselect this option. Should disappear...

I'm replying to an old post but I see it is still active.

If the software is not remembering your logon info, something is corrupt--usually it is the opm.db file that needs to be deleted when you are signed out.

Agree.  More intrusion.  Will avoid using Adobe and their products.

    I agree

It is simply not true that all subscription services require you to log in once you are fully paid up.

    Microsoft, for example.

This is a new and annoying ploy by Adobe which is taking minutes off my life for no good reason. I am going to start looking around for good alternatives.

    Adobe

Whys is this issue still not fixed. It's been going on now for several years.

Adobe says: "You need to log in to run any subscription product." but I do nat have a subscription product and am still obliged to keep entering the serial number of the product (CS6). When I do this and jump through the other hoops, I get the same message again!

I eventually got through to Adobe Custome Support on the phone today. I live in Ireland but the support person (who seemed to be Indian) kept telling me that the problem was a Windows issue! Several time he said he would help me to reinstall CS6 if I gave him remote access. To me, this sou8nded exactly like a scam.

How low will Adobe go to try to force previous customers to buy, or accept a trial version of a product they do not want?

I feel your pain. It's an intrusion and an annoyance. I'm done with all Adobe Products when this year's subscription runs out.  Too expensive and intrusive.

This is so Adobe can maintain control of the market. They don't care that you pay so much money every year – far, far more than it used to cost when we bought CDs. They only thing they care about is their own profit. You're just a customer. You don't matter. You have choices, but the choices aren't really choices. They are in control. So tough luck for you. Then they'll tell you that you don't know what you're talking about. When I start to work on the same computer I always use and Adobe logs me out and I have to log back in before I can work, but then after this happens Acrobat doesn't start until I either kills processes or reboot my computer, it's just my problem. They don't care. I'm paying for it, not them. My time is wasted, not theirs. They have a monopoly. Their attitude toward their customers is "too bad."

Just plus one on this thread. It is bad business to hector people this way. I cancelled Pro as I didn't need it any longer. Now I can't open a pdf without (1) receiving a 'script error' and (2) being asked if I want to purchase Pro again for $19.99/month.

Quite! Time for Adobe to wake up and smell the coffee. Folks hate this endless requirement to have to sign on at every usage. It is ridiculous. No I REPEAT No other software requires this. There is a Hate Adobe group starting up because of this heinous behaviour by a company which should know better. People like me pay Adobe a monthly fee for the photographer package, so Adobe, you have my money, you know who I am from my IP address, so stop driving me up the wall by endlessly wanting my Adobe password on Acrobat.

Adobe DC is still no charge.

Open your account, OR set one up, register and select Adobe DC to download.
