Question

Why does my document look smudged when I run the Optimization Tool to recognize text?

We frequently have large PDF files that require redaction so we have to run the Optimize PDF Tool so Adobe can recognize the text allowing us to use the search & redact feature.  I was recently switched to Adobe DC and tried running the Optimize PDF Tool selecting "Optimize Scanned Pages" but when it finishes running the tool my pages look blurry and smudged.  I have checked and unchecked the "Optimization Options" box and have tried selecting different options with the "Color/Grayscale" and "Monochrome" options in the Optimization section.  These are documents and pages that come from numerous sources and can frequently be hundreds of pages in size.  I have never had this problem before when using the tool to recogmize text in my document.

Why is this happening and how do we correct this problem?  I use a PC desktop computer.

Hi raedowning,

Are you still experiencing this issue?

When you run optimization do you scale down picture and images? Have you tried to change the scaling options for images and pictures?

Also, i would suggest installing latest updates and let us know if that helps.

Would it be possible to share the file with us? Also, is this happening with all the files, you OCR?

Actually whatever was causing the problem seems to be resolved. Or at least I haven’t experienced it again. But I’m going to be scanning massive amounts of documents in the very near future so I’ll let you know if the problem returns.

Thank you so much for following up.
