Question

3D PDF animation not rendering in 64 bit

The attached 3D PDF has an animation of robot moving from one position to another (link is valid for 30 days).

The animation plays and renders the robot moving in 32-bit version of Adobe Reader v21.7.20099.454979. However, the animation does play but does not render the robot motions in 64-bit version of Adobe Reader.

The 3D PDF is generated by creating PRC or U3D model, and the animation is a stream of frames. Has anything changed in 64-bit Adobe Reader that requires the 3D PDF to be structured in a certain way?

I ask because other 3D PDFs available online do play the animation and render motions but upon inspection of those files and mine I notice they have some differences.

I was able to push my company to report the bug through their admin portal. The bug has been officially registered.

From Adobe:
"We have logged Bug ADC-4352159 with our engineering team for this issue. The bug is currently marked for fix in the September 2023 release of Adobe Acrobat DC."

Hi @William at VC

Hope you are doing well.

Could you please confirm the below details:

  •  Is the issue happening with single file only? the one which you attached?
  •  Try changing following settings in Acrobat and see if that resolves the issue:
  1. Launch Acrobat > click Edit > Preferences > 3D & Multimedia
  2. Under renderer options > click the preferred renderer to DirectX if it isn't already.
  3. Uncheck the box enable hardware rendering for legacy video cards.
  4. Click OK > relaunch Acrobat and try again.

For more help refer to: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/enable-3d-content-pdf.html

Let us know how it works at your end. If you have any further queries please feel free to reach out to us.

Regards

Ria

Hi @Ria Tagra,

It happens with every 3D PDF file generated by my company's software. The PDFs work as expected in 32-bit version but not 64-bit version of Adobe Reader. Customers in Nordic countries and Germany are experiencing the same issue.

About DirectX, this is very interesting. In 32-bit version, I can choose DirectX or Software. However, in 64-bit version I only have Software as option as shown in figure 1.

Figure 1. My Preferences in Adobe Reader for Finnish Windows with Language of English/International.

Could this then be Windows issue? This is my current OS:

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 21H2
Installed on ‎29/‎12/‎2020
OS build 19044.1348
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3920.0
