Acrobat does not keep browsing window open when I try to open a file

Hi, I am having a very annoying problem with the free acrobat reader on my mac (v11.6 OS Big Sur). The problem emerged recently - so it has not been there since acrobat was 1st installed.

Basically,   when I try to do "file - open",  although it opens the browsing window, it closes it straight away. No problems with "file-open recent files" and the program does not crashes.

I uploaded a video of the issue

I already deleted and reinstalled acrobat reader, gave it full access to the disk and I know that I can open these pdf files without issues using apple preview,  so it's clearly a problem specific to Acrobat

Any clue? Thanks for any help , it's driving me crazy

Hi @Kala305

Sorry for the delay in acknowledgment.

I see that you have the latest version of Acrobat Reader. Do a clean install for Acrobat Reader.

Run this cleaner tool to remove the existing installer and application’s file traces:

https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html

Download the Acrobat Reader installer from here:

https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Once Reader is installed, it still causes the same issue,

Navigate to Adobe Acrobat Reader>Preference

Hi @Kala305

Sorry to hear about your experience, and thanks for sharing the video. It was helpful to understand what's going on at your end.

It looks the moment you click on the File>Open, the windows to browse files appears for a fraction of a second and then disappear.

Please confirm the following details:

  • Acrobat version? Open Acrobat>click Adobe Acrobat Pro>About Acrobat and check the version. If it's not the latest one. Then install it from here:

Help > Check for Updates>reboot Acrobat.

More information about this release is here: Release Notes | Adobe Acrobat, Reader

Let us know if that helps!

Thanks,

Akanchha

Hi @AkanchhaS  ,
thanks for replying, I have acrobat reader, not acrobat's paid version, which are the download links you gave me.  I checked and I do have the latest version2023.003.20201.0.

Any suggestions to sort the reader?
