Acrobat Reader: "An internal error occurred" popup after installing Windows 10 - Chrome also fails to launch

Guest
Sep 10, 2015 Sep 10, 2015

Since installing Windows 10 this month when I try to launch Adobe Acrobat Reader the only response I get is a pop up, “An internal error occurred ”. I uninstalled then re-installed. Same problem. I tried the Adobe cleaner, acrobat_ittools_cleaner_p2_061713.exe, followed by re-installing the program. Same problem. I can not find any current solutions to this problem posted on the web. Can you help me? Thanks much,

PS Chrome no longer works either. Tried to uninstall Chrome but no luck. My PC says it is 'running'.

Hi bobl6606355,

It seems to be the issue with permissions.

Please unhide all files & folders on your system.

Navigate to [drive]\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\  & then provide all the permissions to the complete folder.

How to give permissions on a folder

- Right click -> Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Owner -> Select the account

Let me know if it resolves the issue.

Regards,
Aadesh

So I tried to fix the permissions, but there are no unknown accounts to delete, everyting looks in order. I tried uninstalling using the cleaner tool and installing it again, also with no luck. Since months now this issue is perstering me, it is so annoying - Adobe please fix this!

nevermind - you have to go in both locations - local and roaming! i don't know why none of the answers on the first page state to look into local as well. for me the problem with th epermission was theren not in roaming. It works now.... thanks for nothing. been struggling with this for months and months 😞

the fix for this is to go to user/appdata/local and delete adobe file and user/appdata/roaming and delete the adobe file in there.  it will fix it.

This worked for me as well. Uninstall all adobe, delete local/roaming adobe folders, run cleaner tool, restart PC and install Adobe Acrobat Pro. Now we just need the permanent fix for the menu bar glitch. Thanks to all.

Hi

How can I delete the folders?  It refuses saying the Explorer (where I'm trying to delete it, is open  😞     )

I'm completely unable to use Acrobat,  Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, many times....

Thanks for your input.

I'm having the same issue as Nathaliedoo, I cannot find any of the directories listed in these answer to go and delete random files. I have no Users\AppData\ folders in my C: drive. I've tried going in and changing security permissions and the like. Nothing seems to work. This issue occured out of nowhere two days ago. The program worked on my personal PC in the morning. I powered down, went to work and when I returned, all of a sudden Adobe Pro stopped working. I've tried searching my C: drive for folders named Adobe, no luck there either. Nothing falls in any of the previously mentioned folders.

Hi,

C:\Users\Username\AppData is a hidden folder, go to Folder Options>View Tab>Check Show Hidden Files.

The solution was a complete uninstall of all Adobe products, run the cleaner, completely shutdown the PC. Then, start up, look for any folders remaining that were Adobe and manually delete them as well. Shut down, start up and download a fresh .exe of Standard Acrobat 2020. Way too much work to fix a bug that Adobe knows about for years and should have addressed a long time ago. What else is new.... take your money, ignore the reoccuring problem.
