Adobe Reader DC 64-bit JavaScript Issue with November Update

Hello,

I think other users of Reader DC that use JavaScript for saving autofill forms may be running into this and similar Javascript issues when their version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is updated from the 32-bit version to 64-bit version.

The problem is: We developed a number of fillable PDF forms about 5 years ago with Acrobat. JavaScript was developed that renamed form PDF objects with a new name, where the new name of the form object included information that was entered into the form (let's say some type of invoice number. We used a JavaScript "SaveAs" function to save the newly renamed form object to a specified directory, and also added JavaScript to add a menu item at a certain position (between the Save and SaveAs menu selections) within the Reader DC application to activate the JavaScript "SaveAs" from Reader DC (once the form was completed). We also saved the form with a JavaScript method to place the form in a "Read Only" state.

This has worked perfectly since the development of the forms 5 years ago, up until the 64-bit update to Reader DC. Now JavaScript execution is broken. When using any another Windows 10 Pro workstation with a 32-bit version of Reader DC, all is still working? However my Dell Precision, Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit workstation, which has been operational for the last 2 years with 32-bit Reader DC, and was working with these forms up until the 64-bit update, works no longer with these forms. Quite frustrating for our company.

I have checked the JavaScript settings and their registry counterparts, other registry values associated with Reader DC security and JavaScript, and I now think that this may be a bug in 64-bit Acrobat (Reader is the basis of that product, I believe).

Can we get an Adobe pro or Expert on the conversation here to let us know what the issue is? Thanks for the forum.

This is not a way to get tech support from Adobe staff. (And anyway, Adobe wouldn't talk to you about Reader issues). But the people here may be able to help anyway.

I wonder if you have checked

1. All the startup scripts are installed to the correct location (which may not be the same)

2. There are no errors in the JavaScript console in Reader

Based on the comments of  Test Screen Name, we went back and checked the install directories again and found the following:

1/ 32-bit installs - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\Javascripts"

2/ 64-bit installs - "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\Javascripts"

Note that the path of the 64-bit and 32-bit directories for JavaScript have changed, and on first glance it appears as if "Adobe Reader DC" is not even installed? However, copying our JavaScript into the 64-bit directory path "JavaScripts" folder got everything working on our scripted PDF forms.

Just a configuration issue...Thanks again!

Yes, I've seen this happening to some people now. It seems Adobe unified the Acrobat and Reader installations, which is extremely confusing and is causing a lot of issues.
