Bug 3844582 access denied symbolic links

Hi,

I'm attempting to install reader DC on Windows TS server 2016 and every user who uses it has an issue when trying to

open pdf. The only workaround seems to be to disable enhanced protected mode at startup. This is not a viable solution

and begs the question why this issue exists 8 years after its first appearance. One of the documents says this issue has been

resolved. Is there any true permanent fix that does not compromise user security and does not require registry edits via gpo?

Edit: Version 18.9.20044.251705

Thanks,

    Hi Astrul,

We apologize for the delay in response to your query.

We have the latest patch released for the Adobe Reader DC. You may refer to the release notes- Release Notes | Adobe Acrobat, Reader  and install the latest update and see if that helps.

As you have mentioned that disabling the protected mode at startup works fine, so you may check the following help document- Protected Mode troubleshooting | Adobe Reader

This thread is marked as 'Solved', but the issue remains in Acrobat Reader current version, 2020.013.20074.

@AkanchhaS8194121 : Do Adobe intend to resolve this long-standing issue, please? To summarise, this issue requires our users to deactivate 'Protected Mode' in Acrobat Reader as a workaround (not good). The issue does not exist in Adobe Acrobat DC Standard.

    Thanks.

@AkanchhaS8194121  Is this ever going to be resolved? its been 4+ since original post... and still an issue! Deactivate 'Protected Mode' is Not a good long term work around.

    Hello,

Do you plan to solve the Adobe reader DC symbolic link bug soon

    • Problem: Access Denied error when trying to open PDF file from symbolic link via UNC path. [3844582]

This is a real need for enterprise and we don't want to disable protected mode for security reasons !!

As Astrul said in the first post this is a 8 years old bug !

    Thanks for your understanding.

I am in the same UPD boat and was hoping to an update.  I still see this as a known issue as of version 19.010.20064
